Quote ="southstand_rhino"Hmm, just read my post back from last night, I think oh dear just about sums it up! It was posted amidst my outrage at a woeful Leeds performance and what was undoubtedly a classy and talented Wigan side, I dread to think about the outcome had your pack been at full strength. And yes, credit must go to the master class given to Leeds by Sam Tomkins, as much as I really don't like him, he is without doubt the best player in SL currently!
And as many of you said regarding bigger things to worry about, that's true, big changes are required at Headingley.'"
Your candour is appreciated, but I never know why opposition fans always have to qualify their praise of Sam Tomkins with comments like "I don't like him personally" or "pity he's such a nowty bugger" or "his attitude lets him down" when none of them know him personally.
Off the field, Sam is one of the nicest lads you could meet. On it, he comes in for a lot stick from the opposition because of his size and because of the threat he poses - it's no wonder he responds the way he does. Last night was a case in point. The tackle when JJB was bent over backwards was clearly an accident and Sam did nothing wrong at all - he tackled the guy round the legs. Yet he was the one who all those ridiculous Leeds forwards ran in to have a fight with.
Reminds me of a quote from Andy Gregory, which went something to the effect of: "All my rugby career, I met blokes who wanted to pick on me because I was short. I had to learn to punch above my weight."
I don't blame Sam for treating certain other players with such disdain.
