Would the cost of getting saints new stadia through planning and all the plans drawn up have any impact on saints huge loss?

If wigan have lost 500k then it's a very worrying. Wigan have great crowds at every home game and also cheap rent for the stadium.

The last set of abbreviated accounts I have seen were for the year ended 30 November 2008. The latest ones (year end 30 November 2009) should be available soon. In fact they need to be filed by the end of the month or else we will incur a very minor filing penalty.

Per the November 08 accounts we made a profit of £444k. However this included a loan written off by Dave Whelan of £1.175m so in real terms we made a loss of approx £731k which includes interest and depreciation. Our trading loss was £322k per IL's review of the business paragraph.

Due to Dave Whelan's loan write off our net liabilities reduced to £2.7m from £3.2m the year before.

Undoubtedly that will have contributed to it. Also, McManus has said that Saints have had to recruit a number of extra staff to deal with the work involved in getting the new stadium off the ground.

I would imagine we will run at least a similar loss this season but the season we spend at Widnes should see a healthier balance sheet simply because the club won't have the black hole that is Knowsley Road to finance.

Have to agree with these comments and I would imagine in 2 years time we could be making a profit(hopefully).

Just had word from someone who has just received the statement of accounts as a shareholder. Looks like Wigan did make a £500+k loss to then end of the year November 09, so apologies. Before going off on one about that I'll wait to hear the detail from IL about why - i.e. was there some unusual expenditure in that year or does it simply cost half a million more to run Wigan Warriors than the club brings in and we are, worryingly, relying on one man to bankroll us to that extent or more year on year.

Given the losses, it will be interesting to actually see the trading profit & loss account to see what is causing this loss at Wigan.

I'm afraid they are only abbreviated accounts so they don't say, it only gives the gross profit figure which from memory was at the upper end of the £3m scale i.e. just under £4m. The 2007 ones did give the turnover. I can't remember the exact figures. The accounts I downloaded from Co's House are on my computer at home.

Its usual for all prize money to be split between the squad as it is exempt from the salary cap.

Unless IL is planning on putting another chunk of money in it looks like we're going to be a loss making venture (or at least heavily dependent on good performances in the league and cup) for the forseeable future.

Not quite. Hull FC have made a profit for the last 5 years in a row. And Leeds financial performance pretty much dwarfs that of everyone else. So in summary, 100% correlation between Grade A license and self-sustaining business model. Unfortunately for us at FC, only the one trophy in that time, although the 2 other major finals have undoubtedly been a major factor in our profitability. Apparently reaching Wembley in 2008 made us £250k.

RE: Running the DW stadium - it cost Wigan Athletic just under £500K in Stadium costs to run the DW stadium.
