This season, it may well be a bigger fixture because of what's riding on it at the top of the league, but as an actual derby match, it's not got a cat in hell's chance of competing with Wigan v Stains.

From my own personal view, it's because of a number of Warrington fans and the way they've conducted themselves on this board over the past 2 seasons. I know that's petty of me, and I'm not including you in that category, but we've had a metric load more Warrington idiots stirring up crap on here than Saints ones for a very long time.

Totally agree and I actually want to beat them or really don't want them to beat us just so the natuaral order of things is maintained and wire are kept firmly in their place.

A game of rugby may well have broken out in between all the fighting....but that doesn't make it the biggest or best.

To myself and many of the older wire fans, a wire/widnes game is always the biggest derby to us.

And with luck, you should have it back again in the next year or two.

Wigan v Wire has always been a bigger game for Wire fans than us. Fact. However due to them not being complete cannon fodder anymore it is becoming quite a big game for us Wigan fans.

Our derby is Widnes. During the 80's these were big games. Hope those days return. Meanwhile I'll settle for a second best derby tomorrow and hope we smash you all over the field.

Its a game of 2 'hopes' then!

The atmosphere was great at first but it died in a way it never would in a close game between Wigan and Saints. Far more mixing of fans than you'd get for Wigan Saints too felt strange. Nowhere near in the same league as our derby at either ground to be totally fair. Stood up and cheered Charnley try then supported hull for the rest of the game. Got some funny looks and walked past a few afterwards who can.'t tell the difference between a Wigan shirt and a Rovers one.... Probably because they rarely see rovers shirts in West Hull I suppose

This is exactly right. Saints is the biggest derby and means much more (the two biggest clubs in English rugby league history) but I have no respect for the way a large number of warrington (not even the biggest club in Cheshire) fans conduct themselves.

Derby, only 1 real true derby,the other matches are just teams who are a few miles off each other as Eddie rightly said last night hull fc/rovers the real derby,both sides in the same city,one west, one east, all merging on the night to see there team win, a city with true passion and rivalry, wigan yeah you may get a slighty larger audience but we are the derby,no mistaking that 1 im afraid.

The two teams in a derby match dont have to be from the same town/city. A derby match is defined as a match between two teams from the same town/city/region. Derby matches are usually intensified when the two teams involved are both challenging closely for the same trophies.

But what you're saying, only really matters to Wigan-hating Wiggsy, and the Hull fans themselves.

Ours is a United/Liverpool style derby. To continue with the football comparison, yours is more akin to a Bristol City/Rovers derby. One city, but no where near as relevant a derby in the grand scheme of things.
