Finishing top = the best = the champions.

Is this a view you had during Saints table topping run or just a recent one?

ts been my view since the playoffs where brought into the game.

No doubt it brings excitement and entertainment to the game, but im fairly sure that if your top after 27 games i think you have proven you are worthy.

Your right and maybe it should just be like that but the playoffs have been here for years now and its now the norm that the Grand Final is the one to win.

No one can doubt Wigan have been the top side in the league so far.

Whats your reasons for thinking we cant?

Personally i think we will lose on Friday and then win at both Hull FC and Leeds so it wont really matter. But I'm the worst tipster in the world.

What does worry me slightly is the fact that we will have a couple of "rest weeks" and probably a couple of no pressure games leading into the play-offs. Hope we don't lose our momentum and go into the big games at the end of the year a bit light on high intensity game time.

I prefer the play-offs but only 5 teams.

Always had that view, i would retrospectively give Saints the Championships back if i was head of the RFL. ONly problem is that it wasn't an even fixture list at the time. Saints played some teams 4 times, other teams 3 times and the rest twice during the season. It was hardly fair. If its an uneven fixture list then you have to have playoffs really - the whole reason they were first brought in 100 years ago.

Take away the Magic Weekend results and who ever finishes top this season is undoubtedly the best.

Those were the rules of the competition at the start. Everyone knew it before a ball was kicked in anger.

Couldn't agree more tbh, Ive never been a fan of the play offs determining the champions although I did understand their relevance during the crazy days of the uneven fixture list. For an end of season show case event I really enjoyed the Premiership competition and day out at OT.

And if i really was head of RFL i wouldn't REALLY give them the Championships!

But I would change the rules from next season onwards. And i would bring back GB, i can't be doing with this England nonsense, as if Wales are ever gonna beat the Aussies when we've not beaten them for 40 years.

I hope we can win the game on Friday because if we do lose I can see a few people starting to question our chances of lifting the superleague trophy. We'd have lost 3 games on the bounce against Leeds, Saints and then Wire against those top teams and with that will obviously come the odd question.


The loss of Coley is huge but I think we can win the game. It should be one hell of a battle.

And RLFans will go into meltdown if we (Wire) lose as we are then clearly bottlers, not being able to beat Leeds and Wigan home or away and still got our nightmare fixture to come.

Perhaps the psychology of it is worth more than the 2 points. From Wire's point of view it really is crunch time. More Psychological than us, and the 2 points are also vital. Wire WILL NOT win the GF from outside the top 2.

If finishing top was what counted above all else, neither Leeds or Sts would have lost some of the games they have this year. Until two years (?) ago you only got a mild round of applause for coming top of the table.

I wouldn't worry too much though - you'd be favourites in most people's books to win the GF this year. Leeds are very much concentrating on the Cup IMO (as well as looking disinterested far too often) - and win or lose it will be a major distraction for us. Sts and Wire are also still fighting over the Cup. If Wire get through to the GF I can't see them winning it. So as I see it (no expert mind you) I think it's between Wigan and Saints this year.

I know what you mean mate, i don't think Wigan would have lost as many had finishing top been the main aim.
