| Quote ="cherrydevil"Goulding didnt need to come inside, all Marsh had to do was pass the ball and it was a try in the corner. He wrongly went for glory and in a closer game that could have been very costly. If Gleeson had been playing then it would have been a try, as would the other one when Marsh did a very poor pass. I agree though that Marsh struggled but he looks more like a winger than a centre to me. It is all good experience for him and he will learn from his mistakes but he looks a long way off being a regular first team player.'"
I disagree, i think with the defence sliding across as it was Goulding needed to come inside as the only thing that was going to happen if he had shipped it on would have been Goulding getting put into touch.

I thought the same, Goulding should have given him a better Option if only to stand up the inside defender for a Moment.

Agreed, had he cut inside he would have given Marsh more options either to put the ball inside which would have been the right call, or to just stand up the sliding defence to give him a bit more space if he still backed himself, inexperience from Goulding I feel a natural wingman would have cut inside every time.

| Goulding had to come back inside the moment he saw Marsh make a dart for the corner. He had enough time to react to that play but didn't and Marsh got his space cut off. I'm not laying the blame fully at the door of Goulding but he could have given the youngster a little more help on that one(which to be fair for the rest of the game he really did help him out in defence especially).
Overall Marsh had a good enough debut to suggest he can become a good player. His footwork looked very impressive and he had good pace. I'm looking forward to seeing him get another run out at Widnes.

| Looked a good prospect if a little light weight for a centre (that might change with age). Impressive pace and he doesnt seem to be short of confidence. The more young english players we have especially in the outside backs playing in SL the better it will be for our International chances so I hope he kicks on.
With that hair he does look like Mickey Higham's love child though.

| Marsh did ok, him and Goulding kept their left side attack very quiet.
He is very talented and will be around for a long time.
I wouldn't play him v Widnes as Gleeson will probably be back.
My backs v Widnes would be Pat, Goulding, Gleeson, Carmont, Pryce.
Marsh would be on the bench.

| Jesus Christ I'll never understand some people. First game for a 19 year old centre who has not really played at any other level than under 20's (minus a couple of games for Whitehaven) against Huddersfield, a team riding high in super league, been consistently good over the last couple of years in terms of defence and who are looking a good prospect for challenging this year. Put on top of that, the fact that its a Murrayfield with all eyes on you and not the comfort of a big home crowd supporting you. He didn't look out of place, he had the confidence to back himself, showed great pace and the first signs of his devastating step, and a great attitude to work hard for the team. But how is he treated, hes criticised by his some of his own fans and his chances of making first team for the future already doubted. It's bloody ridiculous. So much for giving the lad confidence. Real fans understand the circumstances for a young lad on debut and don't expect miracles.

I can't see the point in rushing Gleeson back when Marsh did well against SL opposition?
Give the lad two games on the bounce i'd say and if he looks like he's gonna struggle we could always just swap Goulding and him round and any problems will be solved.

Might be a bit too much pressure on the young lad putting him in (IMO) the most pressured position. I thought he was a centre/stand off?

That would be a slap in the face of Phelps who although he's struggled since he got back from injury he’s still done enough over the course of the season to be selected in situations like this.
The team performed exceptionally well yesterday and no one deserves to be dropped after it imo. Lets use the momentum we gained against Hudds to roll into Widnes next week and put in another good performance. After that we can look at how we played, who is up next and also who is back in fitness.
For me after yesterday the same team bar Pat because of injury should all play against Widnes.

| it would be bad for phelps, but i dont think any one deserves to be dropped. BUT gleeson is too good to leave out if he is fully fit. Gleeson is a very underrated player, and certainly shows how much he is missed when he isnt there.
if it was a choice between Gleeson or Phelps to play, then id pick Gleeson everyday. (assuming both are fully fit)

I agree that Gleeson is a massively underrated player for us. As good as Marsh yesterday Gleeson is a still a few levels above him.
But for me Gleeson has been out injured and with Marsh performing admirably against top class SL opposition I’d be more than happy to let Gleeson recuperate a little while longer and give Marsh another chance against weaker opposition.

| I think it's be pretty safe to say with Gleeson in the side yesterday, Gilmour wouldn't have scored his try or nearly scored a second. Gilmour skinned Marsh twice but more than likely wouldn't have done the same to Gleeson.
That's in know way a slight on Marsh, for his first run out it was a fine effort and no doubt the run out will do him some good in the long run. But he's just not ready for consecutive matches at that level, but perhaps in 18 months time after a little more exposure to the first team he'll be ready.

I think we should have enough to beat Widnes without Gleeson having to play. I'd rather give him the extra week off to fully heal his injury and bring him back against Huddersfield the week after Widnes.
With regards to Marsh I think he did ok on debut. His positional play in defence looked sound, he just needs to bulk up a bit to play centre in SL. He took the wrong option a couple of times in attack but again that will get better with age. Decent prospet overall. Looks a good bet to step into Gleeson's shoes eventually

I'd agree if it was back to back SL matches but with it being a CC game i'd be inclined to think the slight drop in standard would be enough to let him play 2 weeks on the bounce.

Well said , the fact that he 'backed himself' shows confidence in his own pace and ability, good debut, well done !!!
