Presumably he is talking about the year to 30.11.08. Given we made a £685k loss in the year to 30.11.07 (per the accounts filed at Co's House) its not as bad as it seems. Would indicate we are improving on the financial front.

The man asking the question seemed to have misunderstood what IL was saying. He talked about not being able to afford signing players. And IL said it was not about affording, it was about constraints of the salary cap and unrealistic player and club demands for transfer fees etc.

One fan compared signing an Australian who was coming to the end of his career who was possibly susceptible to injury and then paying a large fee for him as like paying £40,000 for a Ford Fiesta.

Just for the record the Gleeson transfer fee (in total) won't affect the profit apart from the depreciation charge (usually over the term of the contract). So say 2 year contract to keep it simple; £50k would hit the p & l this year and £50k next year.

I think it was how the question was asked and that the guy who aked it (who by the way sponsers pat richards) told him he had contridited himself. IL,s reply was somthing like let me finish, i,ve told you we cant afford to pay what they want and re-sign our young players.

For me the most damning question of the night was the lady from Chorley Panthers ARLFC. They have 200 kids playing regular RL, Saints have been scouting there for seasons, picking up Matty Ashurst and a couple of other known names along the way.

As previously thought, 90% of the club's time and efforts are scouting at St Patricks ARLFC. If you don't play there there's a good chance they don't wanna know....Its been going on for years!

Hopefully the wheels of change are turning though, lets bloody hope so!

Mark Flanagan is going to aussie next year... and maybe linking with our "sister" club... as he wants to go over there for 1-2 years and we then would have the option (if he wanted) to come back to wigan.

IL interated the point viamently that " Wigan is a club that is focussing on bringing the youngsters through" and that foreign signings are the exception not the rule.

IL also said that the wigan scouting system needs and will improve to reach cumbria, RU players and be alot better that it is now..
