They should do it every home game for teams that dont bring much support.

We're in Milton Keynes, as you know, and we get home around half past midnight after a Friday night game. But we're probably eighty miles or so closer than some of the London fans will be. So I give them full credit to get to any Friday night game.

A tiny old pit town, seven years since the last trophy, 'the glory days are gone', supposed 'off-field' problems... yet on national television Wigan gave some credibility to the Harlequins fixture in terms of attendance and atmosphere. When was the last time you saw all four stands more than half full for a Quins game?

The attendance for Friday's match was higher than the capacity of most other clubs, let alone highest attendances of the season, and should be applauded.

There were about 25 Quins supporters scattered around the East Stand. Plenty of "regulars" missing (you tend to see the same old faces going away). I had the luxury of being able to travel up on Thursday - it would have been impossible otherwise.

Agreed. We should be booted out straight away for a team nearer the M62. If the RFL won't act immediately, every SL club should move their games at Home against Quins to a Friday night to further inconvenience their already small travelling support.



I would suggest that you get out your Atlas buddy. Including Scotland and France, Harlequins RL fans are looking at 9,500 miles of travel a season if they wanted to go to every away game. Add into that the the railway system in the north usually involves a last train leaving for London at about 8pm and you then have additional costs for overnight stays etc........
I have started running coaches for the club and we took 300 to Wales and Wakey reckon we brought the most they'd ever seen two weeks ago. The key thing is Friday nights are impossible as it would involve days off work, getting back to London at about 3am and then another 1 or 2 hours trying to get home via the night bus network.
As someone has posted on here, you have 4 "LONG" trips a season if you go to MM, France, Wales and London, whilst the nearest away game for us is Crusaders 161 miles. I have mates who travel over 72 miles to HOME games FFS.......
Oh and when it comes to Londons population, it's 8,000,000 people with a lot more on offer in the way of things to do and other attractions on offer.

We don't rely on away support for our pi55 poor home gates so why this preoccupation with travelling fans? In fact, why are people outside of the clubs own fanbase and management even worried about our home crowds?

I thought of all the mod's you may have been the one who felt sorry for that rant.

I don't mind Harlequins but some of their supporters' excuses just get boring after the 100th or so time.

Let's be honest.

If our nearest away game was over 150 miles away, how many do you think we would take on a Friday night.

Five or six games a season speccies may travel, but to expect more than is harsh.

Work out the cost of an average 400 mile round trip every other week.

Say 40 miles to the gallon, thats £45 in fuel.
Admission £18
Food and drinks £10

Add parking / programmes etc £8

Thats £81 every other week.

Then there's the nightmare of Friday travel up the M6, time of work etc.

I think you're being hard on them.

Its unreasonable for people to criticse Quins' away support.

Perfectly reasonable however to criticise their home support.

I'm not criticizing them, I'm just bored of the rants.

Personally people should live with the fact that their support has no indication of improving.

It's not the excuses my dear boy....it's the fact that we have to defend ourselves from the constant drivel spouted by anti-expansionist to55ers who continue to put crowds at the top of their santas wish list.
Crowds count for 2 points. Simple.
Everything else gets you more points and therefore the licence.
If you really do get tired of the excuses we offer.........work out the home fan to years in business ratio....we are 100 years behind you (77%) and 77% behind you in gates.........so on track to be the biggest underachieving club in 2109 with the most fickle fans

They had a full house or 2 during the WCC and used to get much higher crowds in general then they do now.

The biggest city in the country they should for sure be getting more on at home.

What would be better is if you said yes we should be getting bigger crowds and hope that your club does something about it.

Seems Celtic are going the same way. They are talking about moving away from Bridgend next season. Shame as I liked the visit there.

They seem to be thinking about going to Rodney Parade in Newport. They also plan to play either Saints or Warrington at Wrexham next year.

feel free to scour my posts.....I am THE most outspoken critic of the club......but I still say that 2 points lost for crowds is all we lose. Yes, I know that 5,000 is the minimum required, but still, we are above you in the league..........and you are the world famous wigan



Your crowds are great, your rented stadium sorted for 30 years at a set rent and you seem to be operating under the cap for a change. All seems to be well in Wigan. Still puzzled by the preoccupation with away crowd attendance though?

You are ahead of us in the league but we have beaten you twice this season and I am confident we will be ahead of you come the end of the season.

But that is irrelevant we are talking about off field issues and the FACT is your club does not get enough bums on seats. Harlequins should be doing all they can to fill that stadium, the RU do it and even had a huge crowd on next door. Our crowds are nothing to be complained about yet still on friday the club knew there would be an empty stand and did something about it.

Guess that means their new stadium plan is scrapped then?
