Wouldnt have Newton back now....too old and overweight himself IMO. Gettin shut of the pig would be a nice bonus though. What we need is to get rid of him and bring in a new HB. Hooker is covered with Tommy and Macca, we need to get shut of Fat Boy and bring in a WC half back like Lockyer/ orford/ thurston etc, to play with Tompkins next year and make him even more of a world beater. Lets just hope thats what leneghan is doing in aus at the moment....bringing a new HB home, and negotiating a deal for an NRL club to take a homesick pig off our hands!!

| If Riddell was to leave at the end of the season, i'd want a top quality scrum half to come in so we can play Leuluai/McIlorum as the hookers with Sam at Stand Off.

I would prefere a class stand off and play Sam at scrum half, but would be happy either way.

| not sure about terry newton, although possibly a move back to wigan may rejuvinate him and he would add some weight to the pack. i think riddell does need to go though ,imo he is a joke of a signing can't think what they saw in him in the first place, though i think the money would be better spent on a quality half back and use michael and tommy at hooker. we don't need tim smith either he needs to go, but as for phelps i am beginning to warm to him i think he has got potential and i have been impressed with the fact that he seems to have knuckled down and wants to improve, at least he out of the 3 of them he does seem interested in playing for wigan.

| Why are many writing a player off (Riddell) after only 12 games, and
(Pryce ) after 4 games.
Did you do the same with Pat Richards and Craig Smith?

Surely Riddell was the same 'size' when he played in the NRL, he has never been 'slim' !!!!

| Mark 'Piggy' Riddell
2001-04, 92 games. 30t, 198g, 1fg (517pts).
Hooker.
Born 1980, Sydney. Canterbury junior (St Christopher’s, Panania).
First Grade Debut: Saints v Sharks, Toyota Park, February 18, 2001
Popular player with distinctive 'raised arm' whenever taking a kick - often mimicked by the crowd
Fast off the mark and an exciting dummy half runner, Riddell has scored a number of trademark tries by barging over from close range.
Club top point scorer in 2001 with 130 points (6t, 53g).
Was top scorer for the club again in 2002 with 129 points (10t, 44g, 1fg) despite being sent off twice during season, earning eight weeks on the sideline.
Gained the attention of selectors when named on the 2002 Kangaroos 'train-on' squad but was not selected in final side.
Was the club's top point scorer again in 2003 with 166 points (7t, 69g) in a year that was marked by rumours of weight and discipline problems. But Riddell answered his critics by playing all 24 games and steering Saints to victory in their final match of 2003 against the Broncos.
Riddell's consistent stand-out performances saw him selected for City Origin in 2004.
Salary cap restraints and a high demand for Riddell saw him sign with Parramatta for 2005.

Exactly, it's ridiculous the knee-jerk reactions when players aren't performing as well as people think they should.
Now that Mathers has gone and Lockers is playing well, Riddell is just the latest scapegoat for the moaners

it will be Coleys turn again next you watch!! some people are allowed to play poorly and never attract crtiscism where as others cant do any right such as Coley and Piggy and Amos. It wasnt wigans night on Friday despite a pretty heroic team effort. Lots of people said that if the team makes the effort then they would be happy. Well they did make the effort, all of them , against a good hard side. Lets support the players. It took Pat a year to settle down and start playing well, lets give an inch to amos and piggy too.

It was clear to see just before he got injured that he was finally settling in and starting to play better. Its just a shame he got his injury when he did and now he's going to be back at the beginning.
And it also doesnt help when you have fans on his back, that criticise his every move and in their eyes can never do a thing right. He's improved on what we had last year, at least we have a hooker who can pass.

Riddell everytime. Higham has scored 4 tries at Wire already, did he even score that many in the whole time he was at us?

Higham is doing exactly for Warrington what he did for Wigan error /penalty. How he ever got near International Rugby I'll never know.

| If Piggy does go I really don't see the point in signing a replacement dummy half.
Leuluai to move to 9 with McIlorum, sign a world class stand off to play with Sam T.

to be fair when he got his call up he ran the aussies all over (third test 05 or 06???) i think. he was GBs stand out player in that game for me, hence i was quite pleased when we signed him.
however
when he got here he was constantly in the WEP or what ever telling everyone how wigan were on the start of somthing great, that everyone must rally around, show more effort etc etc.
then on the pitch he would just run around like a headless chicken achieving not a lot. giving his usual error full performance.
then regular as clock work he would be in the WEP calling for more from the troops etc etc.........
he followed this basic pattern for his time here, save for maybe a dozen good performances.
much better with piggy, however he mus start the next few games in the reserves, purely because his form has been poor of late (in comparison with MM anyway, who has been outstanding of late).
IMO micky higham is a nice bloke, but not the best 9 around
