| He has certainly shown what he can do. As somebody else posted he has the kind of talent that you cannot coach. Do we give Noble some credit for getting him up to speed and bringing him back into the team when most of us would of happily let him go home a month ago?

I think Noble deserves some credit without doubt but the guy himself deserves the most.
When we signed him people spoke about his problems and you wondered if he could be a nightmare to have around the club but the lad has done nothing but struggle to settle into the side, get dropped and then worked his rocks off to get back in and taken his chance we he's been given it. Away from the field he doesn't seem to have been a problem at all.
He hasn't whinged and has just kept his head down in the reserves waiting for his chance.
I think he deserves alot of credit.

I think so, I can confidently say that I have not once said that we should let Smith go as he needs to have a team built round him to provide him options with. When we signed Gleeson this was the best news that Timmy could have got, when at Parra he had good players at either side of him. It is only now that we are starting to see what he is capable of because of our options on both sides, I hope his form continues as he is a real talent and is a player that plays on confidence.

| You can't blame Tim Smith for wanting to go home.
We all knew that joining Wigan was a temporary measure for him & when he has played he has done so to the best of his ability. When that wasn't good enough he was dropped, but showed a good enough attitude to play well and enthusiastically amongst the reserves to earn his spot back in the first team and even earn a couple of MOM awards.
Let's hope he keeps it up till his last game for the club, whenever that is.

The fact that Smith has suddenly (finally) started playing well, and his agent immediately starts looking to find him a berth in Aus is indicative of Smith's plan and main reason for coming over here. But to be honest, I think we all knew that already.
If he continues to play well, we should enjoy it and hope it pays a short term dividend. I always thought it highly unlikely that he'd be staying beyond one year.

| Well, our halfback merry-go-round continues. First Barrett, now Smith. Will we ever get a half-back combination that lasts longer than two seasons? We won't win anything unless we have some flippin' continuity at 6 & 7...

| What I'd like to see is a good experienced halfback around 24 to 25 years of age.
That would give us stability for 5 to 6 years with Sam as the other half.
I suppose if we continue with Tommy at 7 this could happen leaving Mickey Mac and Piggy to alternate in the hooking role.

Wigan will never win the title with Tommy at 7.

I think the dream ticket is Dobson tbh who is around 23-24 now i think and would be a perfect partner for Sam. He has a superb kicking game and could handle that side of things allowing Sam the chance to have a bit of freedom.
He only has an option for next season with Hull Kr but i'd be suprised if he doesn't extend his stay. Hope i'm wrong.

the problem with that is that good Aussie players at this age won't come over here unless we offer megabucks, primarily because they want to play for Australia, State Of Origin etc.
Could look at Danny Brough p'haps (not sure how old he is and Huddersfield are allegedly sniffing around him). Personally i think we need someone either older (Finch, Kimmorley, Orford or Lockyer) who can help develop Sammy, or a young rising star from the NRL who wants to come over for 3/4 years before returning to Oz. Obviously, the latter could be a bit of a gamble...

I don't disagree that his defence is poor but who would you prefer at 7 for Wigan - Leuluai or Dobson?

No worse then Smiths imo and probably better. If you get him at the side of a couple of good defenders like we've done with Smith it wouldn't be a problem imo.
His allround game outside of that is superb imo and really suited to superleague.

| How much have you seen of Dobson this season?
1) Wigan haven't played HKR yet.
2) HKR have hardly been on Sky.
I think we'll all have to keep a Dobson watch next Friday

Whilst I don't recall him being a liability in defence during his spell at Wigan I'll have a watch next week. However there can be no denying he's been instrumental in Hull KR hitting second and being good value for it as well.
