| Quote ="just_browny"You're really struggling with this one aren't you? It's a good sign that you've looked up the rules but a pity you've missed the key word, 'should'. The ref has discretion and indicates the 10m in whichever way he likes, his standing position doesn't do it. Karl Kirkpatrick used to stand 3m behind the defensive line, it doesn't mean he didn't indicate the 10 though.
The referee is the arbiter, not Eddie Hemmings, as much as you'd love it to be so. Briers was onside.'"
So why was Briers the ONLY Wire player (apart from the markers) in front of the referee if he had given them the 10 metre mark a metre (or two) further forward?

| The players have to be back 10 not behind the ref. If the ref stands at the ptb where do the defence stand?

| 50/50 decisions nd you get 90% of them. Face it, you had loads of ball but did little with it. We only won by 2 points. It's early in the season and we have players to return like Solamona, Carvell, Ratchford, Rhys Evans so thank your lucky stars they never played.
Easy,easy,easy.......

I have no idea what you're babbling on about. The referee indicates the 10m to the players, but he is under no obligation to be standing back the 10m himself. He judges who is on and offside.
Some refs go back 10m exactly, others stand slightly behind for a clearer view.
This is fairly basic stuff, I'm guessing you're not new to RL?
Just while I'm here, what did Bridge do that merited a sending off in the Hudds-Wire game a few weeks back? I'm not sure you ever cleared that up for us.'"
Sick of seeing this every post. He was stirring after the Briers incident by head hunting and caused a few of the fracas that occured. Maybe not a red but certainly worth a yellow. There. Done. Now can we move on.

Wire got a penalty for us not being square, kickable position with seconds to go before half time, yet they werent square in similar positions and were not penalised.
OK, we werent square then, but where is the consistency ?
Briers, well he was clearly offside for his interception try, they dont go to the screen.
Wigan score, and its screen time. How can we prevent this Wigan try say the officals.
Frustrated and annoyed but content in the knowledge that Wire beat us home and away last season, finished top and under the current system won nothing of value.
It aint over til its over.'"

| There was plenty of wrong decisions made last night for both sides, but overall I felt it was a pretty even split. The only issue I'd have with any of the decisions and only because it was such a vital one with four minutes to go, was when Charnley was ruled to have taken Riley out in act of catching a cross field kick. It was the wrong decision for mine as Charnley looked to be contesting for the ball, had that decision gone our way we'd have had a full set of six on the Wire line.

Possibly so. But it would have been way out wide and without Pat kicking I'm not sure I'd have fancied Josh's chances.

Indicating ten metres The Referee should usually position himself ten metres behind and to one side of the point at which the ball is played as a guide to the team not in possession. If tackling is excessively keen or play is unnecessarily rough, the referee may forsake the ten metres position in order to be nearer the players involved in the tackle.
The referee has indicated the 10 metres. Briers was in front of him, and therefore offside.
It's as simple as that.'"
What was your opinion on Hock taking a man out to allow Tomkins to shoot the gap?

He wasn't at the ptb, he was marking the ten metres.

| The referee had a stinker, in fact he made so many mistakes they pretty much evened themselves out. I don't think you could point to anything in this game that was the equivalent of the 7 tackle shocker the other week.

| The only decision I had a problem with was near the end when Finch had the ball stolen off him by Morley in a 2 man tackle and Morley just got told to give him the ball back. How could he come to that decision? It seems the only way Morley can be penalised is if he takes someone's head off. I don't call him 'Sir' Adrian Morley for nothing.
Other then that the only decisions I had problems with were Wigans pathetically negative ones to go for 2 points at times we had them on the rack. They ultimately cost us the match.

10 mins gone, battering our line, penalty in front of the sticks, taking the 2 did us a massive favour. It allowed us to start playing the game in Wigans half. Negative / cautious tactics probably lost you the game - would your previous coach have done that ??

I couldn't believe that choice of play. Wigan had all the pressure, and should have kept piling it on. As you say, going for the two just gave Warrington time to catch a breath and get away from their own try line.

Maguire would always have taken the 2 and I think us doing that on Friday is a result of his time with us. We were efficient and professional and played safety first. The thing is we've really thrown the ball around this year and had a go yet that was negative and it did cost us the game.
0-0- Wigan hammering the Wire line and take the 2. Then from the kick off Prescott drops the ball and Wire score to go ahead 6-2.
16-12- Wigan camped at Wires end and look like they need one try to wrap the game up after a fast start to the 2nd half take the 2. Then from the kick off Leuluai throws an intercept pass to Briers to level the scores at 18-18. Wire never looked back and could hardly believe they were still in a game Wigan had controlled for large parts.
It was embarrassingly negative.
