Whatever the outcome, the RFL =#800000MUST be completely transparent and publish a press statement regarding the full facts behind his contract / payment details and the reasons behind him being offered to Wigan because if what I have heard is true then it makes a mockery of the "Spirit of the Salary Cap".

I'm not criticising Joel or Goulding. I rate them highly and I think they are better than Gareth Thomas. I'm saying they have come in for plenty of criticism by plenty of fans and adding another option isn't a bad thing. It might not make a shred of difference, he might not even play, but at least there's another viable option available FOR FREE!

And then you criticise me for being a happy clapper? I'm putting forward my opinion of Marsh to point out that we have very little cover and that I don't think Marsh is the answer because he hasn't shown much to suggest he could make it. That's not to justify the signing of Thomas, it's to point out that either way there's not much competition and Marsh would probably benefit from regular rugby next year on loan, so more cover would in fact be a good thing.

At the very least he's providing possible cover for absolutely no cost whatsoever. However, as far as being a happy clapper, I'm fairly ambivalent I just don't understand some of the OTT outrage at this signing.

Where does the information that G Thomas would be free to us, come from, at the moment the club have yet to make a statement. Are people in the know or are they just assuming that because the Crusaders had his wages paid, then the same will apply to us.The reason the RFL paid his wages was simply to help the Welsh club to become established, it does not follow that they would do the same for us or anyone else, lets face it , how many extra bums would he put on seats, he would more likely lose us some instead as the whole thing just stinks.

I think that this film is going to either end up in development hell or if it does get produced then it could be a critical and commercial flop.

As things are - and bear in mind we haven't had any kind of official announcement or explanation from Wigan yet, so none of us can really judge - I feel there has to be more to this than meets the eye.

It seems highly possible to me that IL's recent comments about wanting to tap RU are connected to it.

If IL had made mistake after mistake during his tenure, then I could believe that he'd sign a 37-year-old for his playing skills and expect us all to celebrate, but he hasn't - the only thing anyone can find to hold against him is the Karl Pryce comment. Has he suddenly gone stupid overnight? I find that hard to believe.

You are missing the plot.
He will be signed as cover for players. IF and ONLY IF he performs will he get into the team. Then it's up to the likes of Marsh and Goulding to challenge him for that position.

The publicity for the move will be fantastic for the Wigan.

but looking at it like that, he could (could?) be an asset, if we have no more youngsters coming through yet who can push Marsh and Goulding (which i think you may have mentioned if we had).

he could also cover 2nd row if we dont get a replacement for Hoff , and leave Joel in the centre.

i will majorly worry though if he gets a shirt number lower than about 27

Speaking of the league express did anyone read the letter from a very knowledgeable RL fan claiming wigan only had 4 academy players in there 17 at wembley..

Just a thought, but could Wigan be looking at teaching him some of the coaching side of things, to give a future Wales/GB head coach who people have heard of to raise the profile?
