I remember Kris Radlinski stopping (well he might have done) a Cunningham try at Murryfield in the 2002 cup final by sticking a leg out and pushing Cunningham back but I dont recall anyone jumping on him looking to batter the living daylights out of him.

It was another ridiculous over-reaction because it was Sam Tomkins and things are getting out of hand on that score. The game is running the risk of driving him in to Unions arms at the minute. I've said before he's far from perfect and he's done some silly things but he's not on his own.

It speaks to the win at all costs, ultra-aggressive style of play that Maguire brought with him from the Storm; wrestling, gang-tackles, attacking the standing leg, kicking out in tackles - a general disregard for the safety and welfare of opposition players.

It's awful to watch as a neutral and for me, has damaged the English game.

Would you entertain the consideration that the coaches, players and fans who've raised the same concerns this season and last can't all be part of some great anti-Wigan conspiracy and that maybe, just maybe, there could be something in it?

The vast majority of Rugby players have a "general disregard for the safety & welfare of opposition players" otherwise why would they bother trying to put in massive hits.
On that note have you ever cheered when one of your own players has put an opposition player on his ar%e or did you go over an tell them to be carefull next time, incase they hurt someone else?

It is as I said a bandwagon. One of the first to set it going was Nathan Brown which was very ironic since he adopted the same style of player a year before we did. Several coaches have a dummy spit when they get thumped and he is one. He got fined recently I think for saying his players would take things into their own hands but that was for comments against another club. The thing is he said [iexactly the same thing [/iv Wigan and nothing was done. Instead he set this bandwagon rolling and sub-standard coaches looking for an excuse jumped on. Kear is another and he trotted out the same daft nonsense last season and it has grown from there in my opinion. What is more you rarely ever see it mentioned when we lose! The fans just jumped on it the same way. It's clear to me most just can't stand any Wigan success and look to belittle it any way that they can and I think it is pathetic.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the content though - personally, I think it's a massive leap of faith to suggest that all the criticism of Maguire's tactics are invalid and that it's all a bandwagon that Nathan Brown put into motion; that suggests a case of mass hysteria that I just can't buy into.

But you'll happily buy into the mass hysteria surrounding Sam, our tactics, etc, etc? Just call it for what it is - we are the Man U of RL. I don't expect everyone to be ecstatic at our resurgence but to claim we are actually damaging the sport is total cr4p. If you want to look at clubs doing just that you would be well advised starting very much closer to home.

Spot on re the damage done to the game.

We develop young quality players as Leeds and Saints do but someothers cant be bothered. Damage is one to our game by clubs who do not develop them. But rather wait and feed off the scraps we let go.
