| Quote ="WQrriors"Because he makes breaks? Dont get me wrong, i loved him running through warringtons defence, i've backed him every week for first try, but i dont feel as if lockers gets the credit he deserves. The grand final ment alot to him as did his try in the CC, For the past few years and for Englands he has come an done a job, Roby may be having a great season (i admit i'd have him playing for wigan anyday) but i still 100% believe Lockers deserved it more than anyone in the entire league, even before richards for me.'"
It's Sam for mine. Look how he changed the game around tonight when he came back on from his injury. He's our most important player.

Roby has only made so many metres due to his running from dummy-half. That would be 663 runs against the next highest, Danny Houghton with 289. 663? Jesus, that's 30 a game. That's just ridiculous. He's also got the highest number of carries in SL with 803 against the next highest, Rangi Chase with 545. No wonder you all think he's the dog's danglies, he's he only one carrying the ball at Saints. (and that purple-skinned ginner)
He's a great player, don't get me wrong, but one player doing so much work smells of a team not sharing the workload - which is what the best teams do.

| The top 3 will be Sam, Roby and Monaghan but who'll be first out of the 3 is still up for grabs and their form between now and the play offs will have a massive say.
Bias aside I'd still say Sams having the biggest impact of the 3 at the moment and if he keeps his form between now and the vote he'll win it.

| Sam, nailed on.
Nobody in Superleague could have scored the tries he has this season, nobody comes close to him.

The MOS is awarded (or supposed to be awarded) to the player who has made the most influence. Roby therefore makes the most influence in most areas. If Tomkins plays poorly the team is still able to perform to almost the same level. As you are saying 'shut Roby down and you shut the team down. Wereas shut Sam down and the team can still play.

To be honest I've never actually seen the criteria that the players are supposed to use when they're voting

| I think its good that there is no standout individual and will a tough one to call. Sam, Roby, Monas, Lockers and Chase have all been strong this year but for me its between the first 2.

| Between Sam Tomkins and Roby for me. Roby's made 1000 metres than anyone else and is only 2 tackles behind the top tackler, but then Tomkins has that ability to turn a game with a sidestep or whatever. I think it depends what you look for in the Man of Steel that settles it between these two.

| If you looks at Robys stats he does things in massive quantity like metres, tackles, runs from dummy half etc but then when you look at Sams he's coming up with real quality. He's producing trys, assists, clean breaks, tackle busts etc by the bucket load and when you talk about the amount of metres Roby has made his average metres per drive is miles behind Sams( but then Sam obviously does get the room at fullback). We can then look at tackles made and Sams are very low but then again thats obviously going to be the case when he's playing at the back.
Stats mean little at the end of the day but then if we are to look at them i'm not having it that they point in Robys direction over Sams at all. They play totally different positions and whilst both are on fire this year I think Sam is coming up with the match winning plays where maybe Roby is coming up with the sort of effort thats keeping Saints in some games.
Both would be worthy winners but I think Sam has edged ahead in the past month or 2.

| Quote ="WQrriors"O'Loughlin
Shoud be it by a country mile, people really dont understand just how much this guy does, opposition coaches even call him the the best in the league, speaks volumes imo. Just because hes not scoring full length trys does not mean he is not the man of steel, 63 tackles, non missed, That is steel.; The whole systems a joke for me, sams worthy yes, but lockers define MAN OF STEEL.'"
James Roby tackles in the season so far - 777
Sean O'loughlin - 534
although O'loughlin is a work horse with roby having most tackles in superleague and most metres gained it'd be scandalous if he didn't get Man Of Steel.

Then Briers should have got MoS for ten years running because it's always been shut him down and you shut Wire down

I'm sure he'd have won Warrington's Man of Wire award in those years then.

| Serious debating question, why is that the Man Of Steel invariably comes from a side in the top 3, there are players who've played really well all season in other teams eg Scott Dureau and if influence is the mark of the winner then he's got to be right up there- all the names mentioned above have been right up there in terms of great form but it shouldnt be a closed shop
and if the premier league can pick a player of the year from a side who finished in bottom place in the table then we should be following their example ( cant believe im saying that) and picking the best player regardless of who they play for

Adrian Vowles won it about 10 years ago, the exception that proves the rule (unless Cas finished in the top 3?!)

| Adrian Vowles did win it -in 1999, Cas came 5th that season, i think the lowest since then was Brett Hodgson from 3rd placed Hudds in 2009, i forgot to mention Rangi Chase before , been really good all season , and a very worthy candidate
