I also hated that song, lets leave in the 80's please.

| Were Catalans dire or were you just immense?
I hope we can match you and give you a good game next week, but you are the form team in the competition and none of your players look ready to drop 2 points yet.

Catalans were to be fair dire, but we in the first half at least were superb and would have pummeled most side's in Superleague.
It'll be nice to come over to your place for a night game for a change, it'll provide a better atmosphere than Sunday afternoon's.

I'm sure we conceded our first penalty on around 70mins.
Very well drilled Wigan side last night.

A bit of both I'd say. They desperately missed the spark that Bosc gives them. However, you can only beat what's put infront of you and last night IMO Wigan would have beaten any team in the league. It was like watching the Bradford teams of a few years ago when they just streamrolled teams into submission.

| I think the key wasn't the fact that we kept them scoreless but I’m sure they didn’t make one line break all night? Yes they had the ball in attacking situations but they never broke our line either up the middle or even out wide.
That doesn’t normally happen. Normally you see the winger make half a break after being put into some sort of space or an offload in the middle of the pitch.
Very good defence for the full 80 last night. If they don’t already know it by now I’m sure opposition teams will find out soon enough that they are in for a tough battle when they come to our place.

| It felt a bit like a cup game which you know you are going to win and it is just a case of how many. Fantasic feeling coming off at the end of the game. Anyone else have to keep reminding themselves of the scoreline? 58-0!

| Quote ="NickyKiss"The buzz around the place at the moment is fantastic and everybody is looking forward to each and every game.
I keep thinking each week the bubble will burst in truth we're capable of carrying on with this good run for the season. We'll obviously lose a few games along the way but aslong as the players keep putting in this effort it won't be a huge number and everyone will keep buzzing.
I can't help but think back to the 2006 season at times like this. We were on our knees halfway through that season and it was horrible turning up at games each week knowing we'd see half hearted preformences.
What a difference to now and what a joy it is to turn up and watch us every week.'"
2006? I remember going to watch Wigan v Wakefield, first match last season, with a certain amount of optimism. It was dire and I only recovered in the play-offs.
This season is like a breath of fresh air.

| My only issue would be that we've been battered in the games so far - Wire especially. I wonder about the durability of the squad over the course of the season if players keep on going down with niggly injuries like they are.

Well apparently MaGuire is fond of squad rotating and rested Feka and Hansen last night. According to someone on the other forum, Feka wasn't dropped and was simply rested. He will apparently play against Bradford next week.
Everyone is in the same boat IMO in Rugby League. Players will play on throughout the season with niggly injuries. It's what makes these athletes so admirable. The depth of the squad though could be a decider of who finishes where and will play some importance over the course of the season. I think Wigan though have one of the best.
Prop forwards we have - Coley, Fielden, O'carroll, Prescott, Feka, Mossop and Davies if required.
Second row we have - Hansen, Tomkins, Mossop, Bailey, Farrell and Tuson if needed.
I think we have plenty of depth in our squad and the players who can come in at anytime are very good players. Look at Shaun Ainscough who will be playing for Castleford this weekend as a perfect example.

| Quote ="WIGAN FOREVER"Bookies are rarely wrong. I'm as happy as the next man about the way we have started but the realist in me also tells me that we have played three very ordinary teams at home and whilst we have made the most of them, there is a lot of hard work ahead and there is still a way to go yet.
There were times at Warrington when the same old mistakes crept in and there will be some tough decisions to make this season with a number of players off contract at the end of it.
The signs are good but I still think we're a year or two away from were we want to be, but moving in the right direction.
Bradford next week will be as tough as ever and the rest of the RL world will be waiting for the wheels to fall off so let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.'"
Good post.
It's a cliché but one game at a time. Bradford are up next, Odsal isn't a great place to play RL IMO, lets see what we can come up with against them.

| Wigan were very good last night but Catalans were awful.
That was the worst Cats display I've ever seen.
Has anyone seen the Walters' interview on tv? He looks devastated, they will have to up their performance next week v Salford to have any chance of a win.
Why though do Catalans play four of their first five fixtures away from home?
Surely it must be at their request re the Brutus rebuilding programme.

| I do not understand PJ's views, that we have been battered, the Wires match quite close the others we have monstered everybody.
Our forwards are running hard and fast with no sidesteps, best we have seen for a few seasons.

Hansen got rocked against Wire and picked up a minor shoulder injury at some point too. O'Loughlin was knocked out. Mossop has injured his ribs.
All I'm saying is that these games have taken something out of the side. We don't have a huge pack - they're playing much bigger than they are. At some point I fear that's going to catch up with us because they're going all out every game.

I think I know what P J means. We are playing a very physical game in defence. The effort is immense and the question is can we keep it up for a full season?
IMO our defence has been the foundation for our victories. We have punished the other teams including Wire (who compared to the others gave as good as they got) but he players walk off the pitch looking far more shattered than last season IMO.
Quote Our forwards are running hard and fast with no sidesteps, best we have seen for a few seasons.'"
Very true and it's great to watch but I think P J was asking can we keep it up?
I would like to think we can because of the way MM, Wane and Bitcom are looking after the players after the match and also because MM will rotate the squad.

| The lack of size may be a problem, but, Maguire when he arrived said that he liked the look of the frames of the players and he could put some size on them.
What is good at the moment is the mobility of the forwards, and that should be an even bigger advantage when the pitches become firmer.

i too have noticed this , but defence is the hardest part of the game , if we are dominating the other team , i would expect our lads to be tired , its called putting a shift in , something we havent been doing for a few years
leave it all out on the pitch
