He does around 20 seconds in to that second video and has hold of Joels arm but Joel twice tells him to get off and on the second occasion sounds more aggressive as though he’d lose it with him if he didn’t. I know who I’d back in a fight so I can see why Sam Tomkins wouldn’t be much more forceful.

Sams actions throughout both videos are pretty controlled. He’s giving it a bit until he realises they’re being filmed but at least he was smart enough to can it at that point. It’s Joel who’s at fault in all this for me and who’s in danger of losing his job with Wigan. As much as anyone I’d say he owes Sam an apology for dragging him in to something really avoidable. Had he just thrown a couple of drunken verbals and walked then certainly Sam and probably neither would have had their names dragged through the mud like this.

I think the only way forward is to remove Joel from the club ASAP, utterly disgraceful and shameful on the club.

If this was in another other profession where Joel was a public figure he would be gone by now.

That said. The fact that he is making apologies publicly might be an indication that IL might not sack him.

The second video comfirms my opinion that Joel is an idiot and Sam hasn't done much wrong (that has been caught on camera). Quite a few times Sam can be seen either trying to drag Joel away or at least trying to get his body in the way.

It's coming across as a little shady on the other side of the camera too; the start of the second video seems to be a little antagonistic and a little more cynical. It's mentioned in the first video about ruining careers etc so to me knew what they were doing and knew of the intention to distribute the footage. I wouldn't be surprised if her "shock" of the footage ending up online is completely fake. I was messaged by someone on another RL forum who claimed to be the grandad of one of the girls and he said she was offered £600 but said she wanted more.

I think you've got a total bellend of an RL player who has acted appallingly and someone who has been quite clever from the start and seen the opportunity. Whilst one doesn't cancel the other out (and don't get me wrong, Joel is much much much worse) but I couldn't claim the moral highground after basically negotiating a higher amount of hush money and then leaking the footage anyway.

Nothing to stop the club supporting him post employment but we need to send a firm message out here.

I think Sam has been extremely lucky, no doubt in my mind that he was behaving just as stupidly prior to the filming.

The second video is worse in my opinion not sure that Joel can realistically expect to carry on at the club,yjr fact that he got in there first with the paper interview and that told you it was bad,didnt expect it to be that cringeworthy, best for all concerned if he leaves surely?

Barmaid refused to serve them as they were to drunk so after arguing Joel said he would serve himself and thats why he went behind the bar.

A note....we should keep a support of him. The depression that followed shame on his family and himself was too much for Terry Newton. I hope we as a community have learnt lessons.

I don't understand why top pro athletes during a season feel the need to go out and get totally wasted. Have some professional pride and look after yourself. Drinking as much alcohol as possible isn't doing any good.

The drinking issue is a point I’ve not see discussed too much and I’m with you. I noticed during our pre season in particular both in person at the same bars sometimes and in pictures on social media that our lads seemed to be out pretty much ever weekend and that theme looks to carry on throughout a good portion of the season.

I’m not the guys need to live like nuns but IMO they should be really limiting what alcohol they’re taking on board in all parts of the year other then when they’re in the off season and not pre season. That doesn’t mean they can’t have ‘a couple’ after a game or a few sociable ones in the week if they have a day off the following day but getting in states like that is poor form for me. I’ve been as drunk as they were in that video on plenty of occasions (without the need to be a total tool I may add) rightly or wrongly and it takes days to get that fully out of your system. Luckily I have a job we’re I can sit and waste away for a few days unlike these lads. It’s something the club needs to get a grip on.

Since it came out we’ve banged on about the culture at the club and in KR’s statement he mentions it as well. The only way to ram that home is by the sacking of Joel Tomkins; that would hammer it home that misbehaviour will not be tolerated and if one of SW’s self confessed biggest mates is released - what does that tell the rest of the squad?

Referencing back to rubber duckie’s post, it is imperative that support is given to Joel post disciplinary action.

I have said the same thing for years both on here and on Mike's board. It's been a surprisingly unpopular view.

It'll take someone like JT at 31 longer to recover from a binge than a 21 year old as well. It's surprising how the recovery time is affected by that 10 year difference. Any senior player wanting to prolong their career at a top club ought to be more careful IMO.

There isn’t much performance to prolong these days, or these last few years for that’s matter

I have a user name of a player from the 80’s but I’m only 34 myself and I can testify to it being far more difficult to get over a big drinking session now then it was 10 or even 5 years ago. I do not have a job that needs me to be in peak physical condition (just as well) but if I did and I was being paid handsomely to do it and I was passionate about being the best I can be, I’d like to think I’d stay away from these huge sessions.

I look at them in that video and that isn’t 5 or 6 sociable pints. I have no problem with them having that amount now and again but the state they’re in (and I don’t limit it just to those two as I’m sure plenty of others have been in that state from this squad at some point without the last year or two) has come on the back of drinking massively excessive amounts of alcohol and as professional athletes they just shouldn’t be doing it (in season) IMO.

They look ‘Mad Monday’ level and that can’t be right.
