| Quote ="DaveO"It is a bit strange because I am pretty sure IL was quoted at the fans forum as saying Wigan would not pay big transfer fees, end of. So that is why the fans got the impression Wigan would not do so, because he said it!
So when he says in the interview you can watch on the club web site the fans got it wrong Wigan would not pay fees, he has a short memory.
'"
Dave, you've just proved his point. He very clearly states in the interview on the website that the days of £0.5m transfer fees (he says the figure) are over, that's what any rational person would call a big transfer fee in RL.
People, such as yourself who want a stick with which to beat him have basically taken the stance that he's said we wouldn't pay transfer fees at all, when that has never been the case.
Lenagan has proved a lot of people wrong today, and some now want to try and make out he said something he very clearly didn't.

That would be an exceptional transfer fee!
I think any rational person would call a six figure transfer fee (what he says we paid for Gleeson, he does not state exactly how much) a big fee in RL terms. Since when as a six figure deal not been considered a big transfer fee in RL?
Quote Lenagan has proved a lot of people wrong today, and some now want to try and make out he said something he very clearly didn't.'"
He said he would not pay big transfer fees and now he has paid one. It's pretty simply and I do not think for one minute he meant (at the fans forum) 0.5m fees when he said he would not pay big transfer fees.
All he has done today is what people have wanted him to do, pay a transfer fee to get a player. Are you suggesting up to now he gave anything other than the impression he was reluctant to pay transfer fees?
Dave

He very clearly states what he considers a big transfer fee - he actually says the figure in the interview. A figure we have actually paid for a current player. Obviously people who want to have a go will take anything they can and twist it to try and make a point. He's clarified what he considers a big transfer fee he's not prepared to pay anymore - just because it doesn't fit want you want it to be doesn't mean he's been inconsistent.
The BBC are quoting the figure paid for Gleeson as £125k, a figure we were paying for players 20 years ago.

Not getting into an argument here but I don't recall him Ever saying he WOULDN't Pay Big transfer Fees (And I've fell out with the guy a couple of times face to face!).
He did say the days of Wigan Paying over the Odds and being used as a Bargaining tool and Getting dragged into a Bidding War are Over.
I think in Your mind You had the Impression, But I don't think many others did have that impression!
If I were You I would just give the bloke some credit for what, on the face of it, seems a Great deal for Wigan, and leave it at that without trying to lok too deep into it.
However with regards to his "Prudent" ways, I could tell you a few things to back up your argument ! (And he was wrong about Tommy & Timmy, plus about other clubs Fans Attitudes towards Wigan but there different stories for a different Day!).

| Great signing. We've got one of the best centres in the country and offloaded e to Warrington. A complete win for us by the looks of it.
If this actually makes any difference or not is another thing. Signing Gleeson isn't going to solve the entire problem of the team not performing.
Does this also mean the Karl Pryce experiment is over too??

I think the £100k in the bank may soften the blow, just a little mind.

How much of that 100k do you personally get?
Won't soften it that much for you then will it???
Unless you get in a better Long term replacement, Which your more than entitiled to go out and find!
I hope it won't be an Overseas player though, God Forbid! It's only Wigan that do that!
As it stands the Wigan Team is far better after this move and undoubtably the Warrington team will be weaker.
Whether in the long run either club will be the better?? Only time will tell but it's not inconceivable that Long term it may be that both clubs are better off??

It is that cut and dried. Wigan needed a right centre, Warrington had a right centre who wanted away.
Long term, who knows?

| I'm glad Warrington fans can take comfort in this 100K their club has received. Fact is, this signing will probably boost our attendance by at least 2,000 on Thursday night if not more. With an average of say 15 quid a ticket, thats 30K back already. If this signing can galvanise the club for a few weeks, it will mean even more through the turnstiles and the money will be made back in no time. Not to mention extra shirt sales etc. Its a good investment imo.

Another one sipping from the chalice of bitterness and munching on the crispbreads of discontent. Biting from the biscuit of jealousy while muching on the sprouts of despair and chewing on the cabage of despondency!

I see your avatar again proves it doesn't matter what Saints do, it will still be all about Wigan!
It must grate you that whatever you do you'll never be as famous or as sucessfull as are?
Anyway, surely you should be on your own board debating whether the trophies you have won in your Glry Era were actually deserved seeing as you weren't playing on a "Level Playing Field1"!
Saints Modicum of success tainted by Tax Dodging Fiddles, Funny that for Scousers!
