| TBF Goulding looked injured for most of the game. He did a job and that's it. People mention his form last year, but he had a excellent centre in Gleeson directing him around in defence, setting him up in attack and constantly talking to him. I knew as soon as Gleeson left that Goulding would tail off. Decent finisher, good squad player and nice lad but if he wants first team rugby permanently? I can't see it here IMO.

its his first game in a good few weeks, when i said the same about finch i was slated, goulding will come good if hes given a run in the team just like finch has,'"
he was at fault for a try through poor positioning and a couple of times rushed off his wing and missed the tackle but luckily other players pushed out and covered him this could be down to lack of games and being rusty but IMO he is a long way behind Pat and Charnley and so the worry is he wont get the run of games he probably needs

| Poor Daz.....he didnt do anything wrong last night but I thought that everyone in our backline completely outshone him. Charnley is hitting some form, always looks hungry for tries, George ran like a 20 year old (even with an injury!), Joel looked solid at centre - excellent offloads and Sam was......well....Sam! Always threatening when he has the ball! He must be made of rubber coz how he never seems to get injured beggars belief!!

the defense didnt slide so it left a man over, if finch had slid it would have pushed a man out and thus letting goulding to cover his man

but thats my point where is he going to get game time from?? He is no where near Pat and Charnley at the minute but he has got time on his contract to impress maybe he might need to go and play on dual reg like Charnley did and get some game time, confidence and hopefully some form

To be fair to him, he's improving - he did only fly off his wing twice last night.

Pat said on Twitter he will be back on Saturday. I understand your concerns about people having a go at Goulding but you shouldnt be suprised it happened with Pat, Piggy, Finch and will happen with anyone else who comes in and doesnt get off to a good start some fans want immediate results IMO Goulding will only improve with game time and not U20's game time

| yeah im not surprised, just quite hypocritical on this board, (not aiming at you or anyone specifically) when certainly i was doing exactally the same with finch, as where others we got slated, and ridiculed and rightly so told to wait and basically as they are aussies that its is ok n they will come good, but as soon as its one of our own then they kick off big time, i heard it about farrell and tuson at the game,
I agree with the idea goulding will only improve with first tema action, id let him go out on loan for a couple of months,

| I knew there would be a thread like this. It was fairly obvious that Goulding was injured as he was receiving treatment fairly often in that second half so I dont know what people expect. In addition Goulding has hardly played the last few months, even in the academy, and when he has played in the first team it has been left centre one minute, then right centre, then right wing, then left wing. I dont know quite what people expect when he hasnt had a run of games, never mind games in the same position.
Charnley played well last night but has been fairly average himself of late and has made a lot of mistakes for tries the last few weeks yet the posters that always seem to take great delight in criticising Goulding dont seem to do the same with him.

| According to Madge on the official site, Goulding battled on with a bad ankle injury for most of the game.

| I dont know if it is just me or other people see the same. IMO goulding is nothing more than an average squad player. When you look at charnley, who has only recently become a regular. He has a certain spark and looks dangerous ball in hand, He has the ability to break tackles. He has talent that cant be taught, Natural ability that just needs nurturing.Ryan king has the same sort of natural ability. Goulding is a seasoned first team player and IMO offers less than charnley or king. I certainly can not see a long term future for him at wigan.

agreed but Goulding has been in the first team for a few years now and has played for England, its Charnelys first year in the first team and so he is still learning so can be forgiven for a few mistakes
i just dont see Goulding being anything more than a squad player at Wigan. Hes certainly not got the x-factor that would would keep him in the team week in week out

Nor has he had the luxury of playing outside an experienced and top class Centre as Goulding did last season.

| I love the way Goulding is judged by different standards by some on here. He has to play really well in every game otherwise he seems to get a thread like this. If Goulding plays well those that continually criticise him are nowhere to be seen and if they do comment it is all down to his centre. He scores a great try like against Leeds or plays really well and some Wigan fans say it is nothing special and he did nothing. However if he has an average game or a try is scored on his wing, even if it is 2 v1, then it is all down to him and is the fault of no one else. Yesterday he played with a bad injury for most of the game, constantly has the physio coming onto the pitch and has pain killing injections at half time, but what the heck that is no excuse lets criticise anyway.
Charnley has coneeded many tries by leaving himself stranded in no mans land and there is barely a mention. He knocks on quite a lot in contact and again there is barely a mention. He has played fairly poorly the last few weeks and again barely a mention. This is not to criticise Charnley, who is a great prospect, but if Goulding had done any of those things and played like Charnley has been playing there would have been a thread like this weeks ago. Goulding scored 25 tries last year but they were all walk ins accroding to some and anyone would have scored them. Charnley scores much the same tries, I have yet to see him score one that I dont think Goulding would have scored, but it is because he is better and more threatening. You really couldnt make it up.

Exactly. We all know the quality that Gleeson can produce and Gouylding benefited from it hugely last season (ala Gardener (sp?) for the last 6 years)
an excellent centre will always make his winger look good, just the way it is

| Whoever plays wing to Joel Tomkins is going to suffer, he can't pass to the right which is a cardinal sin. You would think all professional players can use both hands? Also does anybody know what Joel is going to do with the ball when he has it? I don't think he does. Don't get me wrong hes a great second rower & tackler but he's no centre.
