Excellent balanced opinion.
He's world cup winning assistant. That's his level imo, but let's say he should be at Judes. After all SL is full of quality coaches - Briers, Long, Orr etc must have a better CV.

Oh definitely he is a good coach. The improvement in Powell is hugely evidential to that. Sadly, he’s not the top man.

| Quote ="NickyKiss"He’s been a number two in his whole career in Australia and you always feel like there has to be a reason for that. We’re still paying for the Edwards debacle for me. That along with living from season to season on players contracts has just left the club feeling a bit frenetic to me.
It’s funny to be moaning so much when we’re 5 from 5 in the league but weekly round scrappy wins, followed by big game slumps has been common place. Wane got criticism for his style of play but it’s worse now than ever and unlike Wanes time we don’t win anything of note.'"
I dont think you can underestimate the Edwards fiasco enough, would Lam have been first choice if the dreaded deal hadn’t been done and handshakes all round?
To me Lam is an excellent Addis coach not the main man
I’m not so sure Lam would have been the first phone call made when Wane handed in his notice, again though your right it is scrappy Wigan win games in spite of his tactics and selection and frankly Wigan don’t look like they’ll turn Saints over if it ends up another grand final game between the two of them

I’ve based my opinion on his results in games that really matter and he’s had zero succes in any of them. As I said previously the writing was on the wall in his first season at the Barcelona debacle and he ain’t improved much since.
I’m still waiting for his brand of rugby that he’s been promising since day one. Think we’ve got a long wait.
I’d describe our brand as hardworking. Unfortunately hardwork does not guarantee success unfortunately Lam hasn’t got the recipe or the skill sets even if he had the right ingredients
He’s not the first poor coach we’ve had and he won’t be last. It’s a tough job with more failures than successes and yes there is a plethora of average and very average coaches throughout the game it’s just unfortunate that we’ve got one of them too but he’s the head honcho and not the guy who passes the instructions on.
You’re probably correct in that he’s a good assistant unfortunately we’ve a shedload of those and it’s a good No 1 coach that we desperately need.

Thanks, hopefully we can knock them down a peg or two.
And I think you are absolutely right. We played the conditions very well on the whole. I'm just really happy with our attitude at the minute. Especially in defence. I don't think a Radford team would have had the patience to wear you down the way we did today. I'm not used to seeing a Hull team that can defend like that.

| Saints look about as lost as us going forward at the minute but have a couple of big props to help them out. If Hull go in as strong as fussy but with Connor and Bowden back in, they’ll have every chance (I don’t think Taylor will make it).

| Didn’t even bother watching today. Really felt it would go this way and my football club had a shot at promotion on the last day so opted for that.
Can’t say I’m surprised at all. Why would I be? That’s Wigan under Lam. Not good enough.
Bring back Wane. Whilst Lam is here I’m just not that interested.

You’ve been building well for a few years now and Hodgson looks like the coach to take you forward towards the next level. Whether you can make that step I don’t know but the youth brought through coupled with some shrewd signings make Hull a team to be very wary of IMO.

| As an outsider couple of observations. You are a far more dangerous team with French at FB. Hardaker is very sollid, but I didn't realise his much pace he's lost, which is odd as he's only 28....
Hastings is too slow and bit Overrated for me. Smith is already the better player, and will be amazing with Williams next to him.
Don't think your pack is that bad, I actually think your backs lacked some spark. Is Manfredi likely to be the dynamic winger he was? I know the poor lad has terrible run with injuries. Was pleased to see him score though.....

| The league is pants at the minute and has been for 4 or 5 years now, so decent teams like Hull have always been a good coaching appointment away from challenging. Saints turned themselves round with a good coaching appointment and Hull could be on the track to doing the same. We didn’t make a good appointment and have been treading water since.

A good summery that.
I’m chuffed for Hull but so disappointed with our appointment and the imbalance in the squad.
Hopefully Hull can kick on and ideally Huddersfield or Catalan too can step up on a consistent basis to give the league a more competitive edge to improve the overall standard of the competition

For the first time in a while we have a core of quality young players who aren't just making up the numbers but are making key contributions to the team. Lane has been excellent this year, as has Cator. Brad Fash has improved massively. McNamara is developing nicely. Cam Scott, Connor Wynne, Jack Brown. 20/21 years old and all can be relied on to come in and do a really solid job. We've always had the star players but the squad players have often just not looked up to scratch. That feels different this year. Its exciting times to be a Hull fan just now.

| Quote ="Mr. Zucchini Head"The lack of size and go forward in your pack really showed today imo. Last week you were able to have success by putting some width on the ball. Today wasn't the conditions for that and Hull knew that they had the measure of you in an arm wrestle. It was a very simple and patient gameplan from us and the final score probably doesn't quite tell the whole story of our dominance. It wasn't even a particularly big Hull pack either. Hodgson put all of his big men on at the start, but even amongst those only Satae is the real man mountain. The pack was as small as it gets with Brown, Cator, Johnstone and Wynne.
In good conditions when you can put some air on the ball you are a very good side indeed. But in the wet when you have to roll your sleeves up you just don't have the players imo, and that's something Lam needs to address.
Granted you made a number of unforced and uncharacteristic errors which didn't help your cause, but even without a couple of helping hands I always thought we had the measure of you.'"
Hull were head and shoulders above Wigan today and I agree, the score line flattered us. However, the biggest difference, in my view, was your line speed when defending, you smothered us to death whereas we allowed easy gains. Good luck in the semi-final.

| I don't think the league is pants (well, not all of it), and it bugs me a bit when people talk as if it's just us and Saints. Saints aren't all that this season, and there's a few sides that will be in the reckoning.

That was always one of the big issues we had for years since Peter Sharp left. Our line speed both in attack and defence was always so laboured with no real intent so we very rarely won the collision. We had purple patches when the intensity was up such as the CC games but invariably just too inconsistent.
It’s the little things that under BH are been changed and dealt with that we are already seeing big differences in. I know it’s still very early days but as a long suffering Hull fan I can’t honestly remember a time before this season where we have been consistent and staying in games. Last season we’d probably have been 2 wins & 3 losses at best out the first games and out the cup.

| Time that some of you stopped blaming Lam and faced the fact that we have too many young inexperience and inconsistent lightweight forwards and you cannot blame Lam for players knocking on, failing to catch high balls, kicking out on the full and not having a good goalkeeper.
The people to blame are those running the club. When Lenagan first bought the club, he was like a breath of fresh air after the ownership of Whelan but now the squad is not the right blend of experienced top class players and the younger players like it was in previous seasons.
No matter who is the Coach, you cannot make a silk purse out of a as sow's ear and that what now exists at the club and might explain the why Wane threw in the towel and Edwards declined a return to the club.
No doubt the usual handful or so of the 'click' who think Lenagan and Radlinski are never wrong in their judgements will continue to wear the blinkers!

| It's time we stopped isolating blame to either the players or coaches, rather than saying it's not one of them. Then can BOTH be to blame, at the same time.

Thats our problem the lads need some more experienced with them having Isa and Farrell move to centres weakened the pack .Why on earth did Lam not start with Bullock and Singleton as starting props beggars belief .We had no forwards who run the ball out and dont make any metres .
