Exactly. I wish you could delete threads that you create so I can just trash this - 18 pages of speculation and nonsense. Thought everyone had got it out of their systems when our play off game got shifted in 2008 but any excuse eh?

| I've read all the pages on this topic, and previous ones that have discussed this issue before, and never commented on it, so, if I am wrong in any way, please correct me.....I live outside the town, so there maybe issues I'm unaware of.
In my eyes, when the construction of the JJB/DW was proposed, didn't Mr Whelan have a controlling interest in both clubs, thereby validating the local/government grants that would be made available on the basis of dual use? Also, at that time, the football club was making it's way up the Football League ladder, and, so, had not reached the money gravy train of the Premier League.
This issue has only seemed to become really prominent once Mr Whelan relinquished his interest in the RL club, and the football club's rise into the PL....as has been pointed out, the only apparent conflict of interest is when football and RL are scheduled for the same day.
I think it's fairly obvious that no further sports ground will be constructed in Wigan....cost, land availability, running costs, usage all dictate that......the Bradford play-off did it for me as far as my very small relationship with Mr Whelan is concerned, as, since that date I've never purchased any refreshments etc, when previously I did every home game.
I can't see any reason why the game shouldn't be played at the DW on the Saturday at 2.30, but, if it can't, I would rather it be switched to St Helens.
Thoughts?

Quote [size=150Whelan: We want Warriors at the DW[/size
Published on Friday 16 September 2011 10:56
DAVE Whelan has moved to ease fans’ fears that Warriors may have to take a DW play-off match ‘on the road’.
If the champions lose to St Helens this Sunday they will be entitled to a home game the following Friday or Saturday.
But Latics host Spurs on the Saturday and – given the Super League giants are usually not allowed to play the night before a Premier League fixture to preserve the quality of the pitch – it has triggered speculation Wigan would need to play elsewhere.
In 2007 the Cherry and Whites had to stage a ‘home’ match in Widnes because of a DW fixture clash.
Sky Sports have already reserved Friday and Saturday evening slots for next week’s games.
And if the broadcaster would not allow Wigan to play on the Sunday – should they lose to Saints – then Whelan is prepared to let the Challenge Cup winners take to the field on the Friday.
In a pledge that will be warmly received by Warriors followers, he told the Evening Post: “I want Wigan to play at home – we don’t want Wigan to play elsewhere, at Widnes or any other ground.
[size=150“The ground is in super condition at present, and if they have to play next Friday, Ian (Lenagan, Warriors chairman) has guaranteed me Wigan will pick up the cost of cleaning the ground and making it ready for a Premier League match the following day.
“He’s a man of his word and so, if we have to do it, we’re both determined that Wigan will play at the DW.
“Hopefully we’ll beat Saints and it won’t be an issue, but if we don’t we’ll come to an agreement.”
[/size
If Wigan beat St Helens the clash will be avoided, as Michael Maguire’s men would have a blank weekend and progress straight to a home semi-final on the weekend of September 30-October 1, when Latics are away at Aston Villa.
But if Saints win – and Sky won’t change their schedule – a clash arises.
“Sky just dominate the rugby league clubs and say ‘This is what you have to do’,” added Whelan.
“If Wigan don’t win on Sunday we have to iron it out between ourselves and Premier League and Sky.
“But we don’t want Wigan to play elsewhere.”
Two of the Premier League’s main criteria governing ground-sharing are that the football fixture takes precedent, and about the state of the pitch – hence the reason why Warriors do not usually play at the DW the day before Latics.'"
This was from September last year. I would assume that nothing will have changed since then.

I knew I remembered reading something similar, the facts dont seem to back that up though, if it was at the DW that would be that, there wouldnt be so much conjecture about the venue needing tbc.

I wonder which other St Helens pipsqueaks be following your example of reappearing on here to have a gloat now they think it's safe - Rommel, Saddened, Johnny the Boy - or, unlike you, will they first wait to see whether it's a real issue or a load of fuss over nothing?

That article suggested that it wouldn't have been straightforward back then and that if needed they would 'come to an agreement'. That does suggest that there would be issues that needed to be discussed and ironed out so that could well be what is happening.
Although obviously I don't know anything more than anyone else, so it could be that what was said in that article wasn't entirely accurate or doesn't apply on this occasion.

They'd all need unbanning first

Pound-for-pound they'd have to unban about 6.

| I wonder if a lot relies on what the football results are like this weekend. If results go their way and Latics are safe, I can't think there will be many issues. Wolves are already gone so it isn't like they would have anyone to complain to if the pitch was not in top condition (which it probably would anyway).
Unfortunately I don't think they have the luxury to wait that long!

| Not a chance we can wait until Monday night to make a call(when Latics play Blackburn).
A decision needs to be made today or tomorrow at the latest I'd imagine. The BBC will want to know where they're broadcasting from and I'm sure Saints will want an answer also. If we think we can only provide that next week sadly Saints would be within their rights to make a claim to the RFL to have the game staged at Langtree park.
I get the feeling we'll be ok though.

i think tickets will be announced Thursday and go on sale Friday morning like they did for Fev so waiting until Monday isnt an option. But i dont see how we wouldnt of kicked of at 12:45 been done for 3pm then given the groundmen ample time to turn the pitch around. Didnt the ground staff at Hull turn it around in 3 hours a couple of years ago?

true - but I would expect the RFL are keen to get it sorted, and start selling tickets ASAP, so I would imagine that as soon as the decision is made it will be made public.

Because BBC One's broadcast slot is for a 2.30pm kick off. They're showing Spanish GP qualifying for the couple of hours before it - the kick off 'slots' for all four games were set before the draw was made, and the broadcasters have then divvied up the games between them. There's no flexibility on the days and times - or certainly there won't be on the BBC picks; Sky Sports could probably switch things around to suit.
If BBC weren't showing the game, then an earlier kick off might've been an option - but if the game wasn't being shown on TV, we'd be playing it on Friday night anyway, so it's a moot point.

FFS, hope that's not true. Want this game played at the DW and nowhere else, it's the whole point of having a cup draw! Surely DW can arrange to get the stadium turned round in 24 hours.
If you're right, hopefully it will be LSV as the Reebok is far too big. Could be a good occassion and atmos at LSV.

| the club should withdraw from the cup if they cannot play at the DW - if it was planned for the same day fair enough - but to play a match 24 hours earlier is not a problem.
Withdraw from the cup and make a stand - this would be all over the papers and broadcasters - highlighting what a c n u t DW is
