I am not saying Riddell and Roberts are going to end up having the impact that Richards has had but its solid proof that it takes players time to settle in.

Richards was played out of position at centre in a team coached by Millward that was in a terrible state. So unless you think Riddell is facing the same problems (which he clearly isn't) Richards history at the club is not solid proof players need time to settle in at all.

IMO this notion a senior player like Riddell needs over half a season to settle in is rubbish. Barrett came over carrying a bit of a calf strain and once what was out of the way after about a month went on to put in a superb first season. That is what we should expect from senior players coming over here i.e. they get up to speed very quickly.

In Riddell's case there was all this talk about getting a good pre-season in and coming over early so he could do just that. Well it has not happened and its about time people stopped making the lame excuse he needs time to settle in. He has had more than enough time.

If we must wait half a season for overseas players to find form then they are not worth signing. I don't recall us having to do this for many of our recent overseas players such as Lam, Dallas and Renouf etc.

Long will have talked to other clubs. But that doesn't mean they'll have offered him what he considers to be his market value. Wigan may have been one of them - after all, you'd expect us to at least enquire to see what he was asking. Doesn't mean that there's been some kind of amazing bidding war.

And seeing the speed it's been done at looks more likely that he will have snatched their hands off rather than being inundated with big money offers!
