The penalty fine system is a stupid idea imo. Most of the penalties given against Wigan are for lying on which is a game plan the coaches set out for the players. Others such as offside are the players trying to push the rules and 9/10 they get away with it. I’m sure Madge is perfectly happy with the number of penalties we give away because we play to the limit of the rules and for everyone we give away four or five don’t get pulled up on.
Is it frustrating yes but a lot of it is down to the refs being pedantic as well.'"

| Quote ="rochdale warrior"Just got back and watched it on Sky+, it was high but what was obvious to me was that Childs went to consult his touch judge but he did no such thing the video ref Mr Bentham ( Warrington ) told him to send him off, is this a new role for the VR, I thought they were there to adjudicate on the scoring of tries. The Touchy never said a word.
I also didn't realise how we were on the wrong end of so many calls 2nd half, but hey, still won and 4 points clear, as Rads said in South Stand Bar we have got to just keep playing our own game and take the ref ( and video ref ) out of the equation.'"

| that was a red card every day of the week for me. Im afraid we may be missing him for two games. Issues I have with it is that they happen regularly and normally go unpunished!! Inconsistency is the problem and all challenges like that should be a red.

| As I say with any other decision, as long as all those kind of tackles are given the same punishment then I won't mind.

| Trouble is Peacock and others get away with game in game out season in season out and without it being mentioned by the dis panel.
Last year he coathangered Greg Bird at Catalans and it never got a mention.
As has been said consistency is the problem.

| As is mentioned earlier it was definitely a red the problem is the RFL's and refs inconsistency. If Senior or KC did the same it wouldnt even of been a sin bin.

I agree. It was a bad tackle, as soon as he did it I knew he was going off and I wouldn't be surprised if he got 2 games....
but...
as has been said previously, didnt Scott Moore make "direct contact to the head" against Leeds this weekend (after JUMPING in the air to make the tackle) yet only a penalty.
Didn't Peacock make "direct contact to the head" TWICE in one tackle against Sam Tomkins in the quarter finals yet that was only a penalty.
I think the majority of wigan fans think Coley should have walked they're just pee'd off that refs dont make the same decisions in the same circs every week, that is what is a farce.

Good post. It definatly was a red as well, Coley swings his arm, makes contact with the head first, but I can remember a similar tackle on Feka last season (agianst huddersfield) and no card. Fair play to Childs for having the balls to send someone for what should be a red card (even if he did have a very poor game for the rest of the 80 mins) but I wish the rest of the refs would catch up apart from maybe Ganson who might have had that card out.

Although Childs gets the odd call wrong, and imo still can't control a game properly, he is one of the few refs who has the balls to make the big calls.

He's right though.
Remember Sergants (sp) hit on Sam Tomkins last season? Compare that to Lockers hit on Robinson. A lot of cherry and white spectacles kicking around then.

Honestly i wouldn't be.
I've said the same thing about the Peacock incident in the cup. I also said the Morley tackle on Hansen early on the season was excellent and the type i'd love to see more of in RL.
As I’ve said before it's rugby and I realise shots like this happen occasionally in the game.
No need to go OTT and start banding around two or three match bans unless we want to turn into football.

Precisely what I said, but the RFL describe it thus (in case anyone missed it)
"Player makes initial contact with back of opponent, lazy attempt, not malicious, penalty sufficient"
There's a word to answer that, and it means "Testicles".

It's certainly in full swing around these parts at the moment. I assumed that us being at the top of the league would ease people's paranoia but it just seems to have amplified it.

We can all laugh it off but every time a ref seems to follow the letter of the law i.e. Coley against Catalan or Farrell against Leeds it’s always a Wigan player who it’s against. There have been a few other incidents this season- Joel speaking to Ganson and he gets a yellow but nothing against Quins? Did Joel also not get 10 against Hudds and five mins later the same offence was committed by a hudds player and no card was shown?
You can point to about a dozen separate incidents since the Leeds game were the same sort of incidents have occurred but the same punishments haven’t been dished out.
So what is it down to then? Either it’s when Wigan players commit an offence it’s the worst case of that incident the ref has seen OR the refs are sadly biased??
You can’t ignore the FACT that Wigan always seem week in and week out to have some sort of crazy decision against

You can go on to every other teams board and read exactly the same comments every monday morning just replacing the word Wigan with Leeds, Saints, Warrington etc. Just go on the Castleford forum at the moment and they think the whole RFL and Superleague is against them. Not just referees.

The thing with the Cas situation is that there is very little to compare it against.
The cards shown to Faz and Coley are not consistent with the punishments given to other similar offences. Now the problem lies in if you think it’s either the refs are incompetent or bent.
For me they are bent simply because I can’t honestly see how someone could make that many bad calls in a match.

you can watch that on the BBC's website. Peacock stuck his arm out after being stepped, Coley swung and hit he head. Although neither seemed to be intentional, Coley's was a strike at the head and Peacocks was an arm sticking out with no force behind it. Coley walks, Peacock gets spoken to. Referee made the correct call for both.
