| Latics fans actually wanted it to be called 'The Springfield Park Stand' so are quite happy.

| Why doesn't he just add an 'S' onto the DW so it's symmetrical? The logo is red/black/white and the blue paint is being topped up outside? Why? They've changed the signage to DW on my gym and painted the blue strip red, it looks pretty smart.

| The 'Boston Stand' is a great name as it has a double meaning.
In addition to being named after a Wigan RL legend, it also reminds the blue 'chip on their shoulder' s (well the very few that remember any of it's very insignificant history) that [size=200Boston[/size United finished top of the Northern Premier League and should have replaced Southport in the Football League Division 4 instead of the La***s.
Very Very Very Very Unfortunately, Boston were having stand roofs replaced at the time and, therefore, were marked down on the grade for their ground - the parasites (tics) were given a higher grade for Pneumonia Park (now don't laugh - especially if you have seen the video on YouTube of Sunderland fans diving down the mud banks (sorry, terraces!) in the 1980s) and were the NPL's team put forward for election that year - the rest, as they say, is history....in their case, perhaps, the biggest part of their insignificant history!

Yep, and some 27 years later we were playing top flight football
Wonder how many clubs can say that? Oh, and we also rose from the bottom tier to the top tier in 10 years ala Hull City, only we finished 10th and reached a cup final.
On a totally seperate note............from a Wigan RL point of view it could only ever be 'The Boston Stand'. From a Latics pov I guess at least all our 'fans' will have HEARD of Springfield Park (god rest her soul) even if they never went. (although the crowds of 1500 were obviously lies as all 13000 of our st holders were there week in week out)

Yeah, I know a lad who hasn't missed a La***s game since 1977 - he didn't go between 1985 and 1999, plus very rarely until the Prem League season, but in his mind he went every season throughout the 80s and 90s!
Oh, and to make things worse, he absolutely HATES Wigan RL - although he went to every Wigan RL Wembley Final between 1988 and 1995 (plus 1984 and 1985!) and to many other matches but now denies it - unfortunately though, we've got the photos to prove it (with a Wigan RL ski Hat and scarf on!) - there are others on this site who can confirm it and post the photos of this fraud from Scholes.
No doubt though, he's one of thousands of a similar Wigan RL hating tics fans who have put their Cherry N White colours away until our glory days return.

Conroy - you strike me as a reasonable individual who supports both clubs.
I don't want to turn this thread into a Wigan RL v Latics hate thread, but a genuine question has to be how far Wigan RL bankrolled the rise of the Latics? IMO, it was significant.
Oh BTW, my team also reached that same cup final

A little I would say definitely. Wigan RL weren't really winning trophies were we, so I doubt our prize money was that significant. Only one man will know that though I guess.
I refuse to remember the score of said final - although you only beat our reserves in fairness

| Oh dear what a shocker.
I saw the new 'DW' bit on the outside when I went to the cinema on Wednesday and thought it looked absolutely she-ite, that pic has confirmed it.
As for the seats

Can't believe you still go to that cinema
As for the seats - they looked bloody awful on the bit of "extra time" I saw when I got home from the game. That "Wigan" is so unsymetrical its not even funny.
The DW didnt look as bad with the black seat outline.

| The offset lettering in each of the stands seems to have been done for the benefit of the TV Studio. Makes sense in a way that they look right for that reason as it's on tv where you'll see inside the stadium when it's empty.
Still naff though isn't it.

I saw it on the Sky+ replay and it looked awful. A rushed job IMO.

| The DW bit doesn't look to bad, but the way Wigan has been put on the stand is terrible it's neither straight nor the right thickness in parts, a very poor job, thankfully you cant see it when people are sat down.

| The DW looks decent enough with the blackoutline now in place, you would hope something similar is being done in the East to fix the lettering. Hope being the operative word.

Could not agree more.
The revolving DW sign is even worse as you approach the stadium.

you would hope so, but from what I've been told Whelan has decided not too. The reason is cost - at £4 a seat.
£100,000 for the whole stadium - peanuts for a PL team.

I saw it on SSN and it looked embarrassing on there!
For a PL and SL stadia, the DW looks aesthetically poor.

| If ALL we have to moan and worry a few letters in the Stadium that you can't see when people are in their seats, then I'll be delighted.
Who cares?
Who's bothered what the stands are called?
Does it really matter?
This message board gets more like a primary school playground by the day.
It's Whelans Stadium. He puts the money in to call it what he likes, and quite rightly.
I don't have to like the man to sit in his Stadium, but I'd be bigger fool to let it stop me going or move my seat to the Boston stand although Billy is one of my all time heroes.

| I've heard the Boston Stand will be having the black outline done over the next fortnight, the reason for the imbalance in the lettering is due to the shadow effect the black is to create.
The actual DW letting is very good and it is only let down aesthetically by the fact it isn't ed within either stand. ATEOD though if Wigan continue to play like that in the DW stadium then I'll be a happy bunny, maybe it's the start of a new era...
