I think Charnley has done brilliantly for Hull KR in the four appearances he's made for them.

But For me, Liam Farrell has been more impressive as he's played consistantly well and regulary earned his place in a team that he's been top of the league for the majority of the season.

I hope Charnley get's the opportunity with Wigan sooner or later.

Charnley may have only played 4 games, but what an impact he has made in those games! Not just in try-scoring but in his whole game, his maturity & his enthusiasm mark him out as a star in the making!
Hope he gets the chance to make his name at Wigan though & not left waiting too long so he gets fed up & wants out!!

I asked the RFL how the young player of the year is decided, the following was their response:

'Each Super League club nominates a young player. These players are then voted for by a panel and the RFL performance department. The player has to be 21 at the start of the season.'

Tomkins is so exciting to watch at FB. I still worry about him getting hurt there, but last night the "selfish" part of me just watched his footwork and thought I was seeing something special.

Not many players in the world with that kind of footwork.

Well according to that RFL explanation the club has to nominate him to be eligible for it. Can't see them picking anyone else unless he asks them not to because he's already won it. If they do put him up and he doesn't win it'll be a travesty!

Tomkins won't win it. He's won it already and one of the main purposes of the award should surely be to put a rising star 'on the map' giving such a player a huge confidence boost in the process. Besides Tomkins has surpassed that type of award - those in contention for Man of Steel shouldn't be considered for Young Player of the Year in my opinion.

But the RFL nominate the MOS contenders, and the players then vote on the nominees. But I don't think that Sam should be penalised (probably not the correct word) from being young player of the year because of his MOS nomination.

It'd be nice to see Sam win it, but I think it's more likely to go to a rookie from this season rather than someone who still qualifies age-wise, but is more experienced.

Foster, Farrell, Clarkson and Whitehead as already mentioned have done well this year.

Is that correct? Phil Bailey on GMR the other week said he voted for Matt King last season.

No way would Matt King had been in a list of nominees last season (although he'd deserve to be this season).

If its not to be sam, Goulding was 22 on the 3rd March, which makes him eligible. Same with Riley I think, just about turned 22 after the season started.

Surely one of those two deserve recognition just for the amount of tries they've scored.
