To be honest, I don't know why Wigan RL fans SHOULD be supportive of Wigan Athletic.

First of all, they're cuckoos in our nest. For all that it may be short-lived, they've taken a little bit of the shine off Wigan town's rugby league heritage, something I personally can never forgive them for.

In addition to that, many Wigan fans who also like football were already committed to supporting other clubs (who have no beef at all with Wigan RL), so those lads surely can't be expected to give unswerving support to Latics?

We've also had the hate campaign conducted against Wigan by jumped up little Latics farts - over a period of many years, in particular during our glory years, which to some was tantamount to the sort of treason that in political terms once got people hanged, drawn and quartered. In a world of enemies, there are none more hateful than those within.

Sorry ... I just don't buy it that merely because Wigan Athletic are in Wigan, we should support or even like them.

Why be bothered with them then?
Honestly, they have nothing to do with us and don't repreesnt the town in terms of either history or society.
My sport is rugby league so I have about as much interest in Latics as I do for Wigan rugby union or Orrell.

im not asking you to like latics personally or even like them.
my point is that the bigots out there on both sides must realise there are some people in our town who want both teams to do well.
the people in wigan who support other football teams only do so for one of two reasons one of wich is a family affiliation to another team because there families from that town/city or that they are glory hunters,and before you point the fact out i know that some latics fans ecspecially the jcl brigade are also glory hunters but this is what rising through the divisions brings,not saying i agree with glory hunting but youll never stop it.

I make no distinction between what the Vichy collaborators tried to do to rugby league in France and what the warped JCL's from Pimbo and Digmoor are trying to do to Wigan RL.

We as rugby fans have to deal with the fact that there is another reasonably successful professional sporting team in the town, as do latics fans.

We can live together, the vast majority of fans accept that. Those that spew out bile on the latics message board aren't worth bothering about, let's not stoop down to their level, even in retaliation.

orrell lad i think youd find most clued up latics fans of that era don thate wigan rl but they do hate maurice lyndsey and with good reason,and they hate him as much now even though he is on the board of the latics,the problem the latics face is that a lot of the jcls are fickle and in the event of a relegation or two they wont be seen for dust a problem im sure a lot of the older warriors fans will remember after relegation during the fairburn era when crowds dipped at cp after relegation.
there in lies the problem of wiganers while both teams hardcore supporters are to be respected its the fickle ones i cant stand who only go when thier team is winning and dont stick with them through the difficult times

If I meet even one person who says to me "Wigan used to be a rugby town, but now it's a football town", I consider it a problem. I'm sure you'd agree with me on that.

And unfortunately I have met people like that. In most cases it's folk who've never been north of Watford Gap, which kind of renders their view irrelevant (on just about everything), but I'm sure you'll allow me the conceit to still be cheesed off that there us anyone at all saying this sort of thing.

Ned refers to people who don't like Latics as "bigots". I would argue that Wigan are one of the great British RL clubs - in terms of results, history, the club's presence, it's personality, its fame and reputation. I'm sure even die-hard Saints fans wouldn't begrudge us that. I don't say we're the greatest, just one of the greats.

And in that respect, it's not being bigoted to say that we've earned the right, over decades of hard-fought victories, tto be the town's primary sports club - it's stating an undeniable reality. And if Latics fans - however reasonable and friendly they are - don't like that, I don't care.

They (And probably it is the JCL's rather than the True Latics fans as I have 1/2 dozen or so Mates who've watched Latics for 30+ years and they NEVER have a dig at the Rugby or Myself back at them over the Latics) have been on a campaign to Run the Rugby into the ground for the Past 10 years!

Ever since they have felt they have had the "Upper Hand" with regards to the stadium we have been on the defensive and IMO until the sale of Wigan RLFC to IL we have struggled to regain our true individuality and fight back to regain our own True place in this town's sporting culture.

This obviously coincided with a gradual decline in Wigan RLFC's fortunes and a rise in Latics position in the Football league but I for one always felt that the 2 were inter-connected!

As stated previously for the 1st time ever I went onto the Cockney Liar after what I had Heard about the Boston Slander that was on there and TBH the Hatred, Ignorance, despise that a Lot of the posters on there feel towards not only Wigan RL but to other's inc the in fighting between themeselves reinforces the thought I have had for a long time!

I think that Football in this country as become such a Monster in this country over the last 15 years or so that there is now a belief that the game can do no wrong!
Subsequently the parasites that Play & Run the game feel and act as though they are "Untouchable" and the Arrogance and sheer disresepect that everyone shows to each other parallels in the society we have around us!

I believe Rugby League Has shown tendancies towards this and luckily the force from within "The Fans" will not allow this to happen and at the first sign of the game, it's administrators, it's players and most importantly it's Fans showing that Petulant,cocky,arrogant disrespect for others the True fans of the game knock them down a peg or two!

Wigan is and always has been a Stonghold of RL!

Football does dominate 90% of the Planet and good luck to them!

I want ourselves, St Helens (And that's why the Saints fans who kissed the Latics Badge at me a couple of weeks ago at KR make me sick!) Warrington, Leeds, Bardford,Both Hull clubs etc need to fight to retain their place on this countries sporting landmark as no-one else outside our 4 walls will fight for us!

I don't believe there is a 1 in a Billion chance that our game will EVER reach a True worldwide audience and 1 in a million chance it will EVER get the recognition and nationwide support it truly deserves.

Because of that I want us Wigan fans to defend this Game and our club wherever and whenever possible against the Monster that is Football.

They would have drove us into the ground and we could have found ourselves in a terrible situation if it were up to them, some of that would have been our own making and No, I don't blame Whelan totally.

I'm just saying that "They", and evidence suggests this is 50% minimum of their support would Kick us while we are down!
