If the rankings are fair the is absolutely no reason that couldn't work.

| Quote ="FearTheVee"Marshall on the wing is a decent shout, had forgotten about him TBH as your mind just immediately goes to French.'"
He's suffered in a sense by the extraordinary exploits of Field and, particularly, French. In my opinion he's been barely behind them all season and won us both the semi and final (along with Smith) of the Challenge cup. Most years he'd have walked into one of the wing positions. You also have to take into consideration he's made said contributions despite most of our attack, for obvious reasons, going down the right flank.

| Quote ="FearTheVee"Had you asked the question last year a lot of Saints fans would have had him in. I just think he's not been quite at his best second half of the season whilst we have others who have really stood up and improved (in the ase of Batchelor and Paasi) or surprised (in the case of Hurrell).
I also think he is starting to fall into the Lomax and Roby bracket that you don't even mention him because he does what he always does. I didn't mention Lomax in out POY discussion (I went Batchelor, Paasi, Hurrell) but when I think about it we would have been absoolutely screwed without Lomax and he's had a very good year including playing a chunk of it busted.'"
In all honesty he isn't in the same bracket as those two. Roby is, quite frankly, one of the best players ever to play Superleague.
I see what your saying in that he quietly goes about his business and does it to good effect on a consistent basis. However, the same could be said of Farrel and, I would argue, the things Farrell does, Knowles couldn't and never will be able to do.
I'm not saying he isn't a good player, but he's in the 'valuable grafter' mould. He's never going to win you games in the way a Roby, Lomax or Welsby can.
In sport, Superstars attract fans. We big up the aforementioned or French or Field for example and when non-rugby league types see them, it's clear as day that they're out if the ordinary. Tell a non-rugby league type that Knowles is 'one of the best players in Superleague ' as has been suggested on numerous occasions and they'll be at a loss as to why.
We do ourselves a disservice as a sport trying to over egg good standard, solid, reliable players into superstars. As I say, I've nothing against him. He's a fine player. But we need to stop the hype.

| If we went just on derby games this season then Paasi would absolutely stroll into my side. I used to worry about Walmsley - this year I was counting the minutes for him to come back on and get Paasi off the field!

Not when guys like McShane win the overall thing. No one can tell me that Roby wasn't a better player that season. Some players stand out in poor teams (fat boy being a prime example). It doesn't mean they've had a better season that their equivalent at a proper side tho.

Agreed. He was good tonight again, in a nothing game. which says a lot about him. I still can't see him as an international player, though (but obviously, would love to be proved wrong). But a faIr shout for the Dream Team, certainly.

Yeah, I don’t think he’s quite there but he’s not far off, another season or so and he’s in the reckoning for England (must be fairly close now). Makinson is obviously a shoe in and there must be a few fighting over 2 spots for the World Cup squad? Which I think are Marshall, Ryan Hall, Joe Burgess, Ash Handley, Tom Davies and maybe Lewis Murphy could be in with a late shout. Shame Tom Johnstone isn’t more durable/lucky with injuries as he would definitely be starting and I guess you could say the same with Manfredi.

| Matt Shaw has gone with Smithies
Perhaps my most controversial selection as I know many will go with Morgan Knowles. I'm a huge fan of Knowles but it's impossible to ignore what Smithies has done this year. He has been, simply, superb. If you compare the stats of the two, Smithies has outperformed Knowles in almost every department. He has made more carries and more tackles despite playing three games fewer than his Saints counterpart. Despite making more tackles, he has missed less and given away fewer penalties. His tackle completion rate is 97.8% which is just outrageous. Knowles has more attacking qualities but Smithies has earned his place this season.

Summed up pretty nicely.
It should be between Smithies and Yates anyway IMO. I’m a huge Knowles fan but he’s been off his best this season.

| They’ve done pretty well. Paasi over one of the props IMO.
Leutele over SKD
Smithies over Knowles
Also feel like Welsby has been shoe horned in, how many games has he played in the halves ?

| Paasi over Walmsley for me, of what I've seen of him he's been Saints best forward this season, causes mayhem when he's on, maybe he's missed out because he's been used from the bench ?

| I’m glad they’ve picked Welsby over Lomax. A bit like Knowles, I felt Lomax would be one of those automatic picks regardless of performance against their peers. No way Knowles should be in but as I said the other day, Lockers pinched a place a couple of seasons as well on reputation. I’m surprised SKD is in ahead of Leutele or Hurrell but if he swapped clubs with either he’s every bit as good I guess. Walmsley is a weird one. Not been at his best but even so, his best is that good, he’s still outperformed most other props.

| Not bad but, as ever with these things, it's all a matter of opinion. Like most people, I rate Walmsley massively but Passi has simply been better this season. Glad Roby is in. His level of consistently, like Farrel, is on another level. Knowles just in on hype I'm afraid. He's not even been Saints best back rower this season and despite a good start to the season hasn't even been that good over the latter half. Smithies or Yates all day long. Not sure SKD has been better that Leutele either but I perhaps haven't seen enough of of him to make that call.
Everyone else is pretty much as I would have picked. Although I can see the argument that Welsby has been shoehorned in, he deserves to be in there somewhere and there's no way he's getting the fullback spot over Field this season.
Happy for Faz. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Hopefully that's starting to change as he gets towards the back end of his career. Special mention to Marshall too who couldn't have been far off himself but has, perhaps, been overshadowed by the exploits of French on the opposite wing.

Not really. Bateman was in his prime during his NRL run. McQueen and SKD are 35/34.
