The fact we are playing Saints will focus the players minds on that and then the WCC after. Personally I think that arguement was a poor and easy excuse for Leeds last year because their poor form continued after the WCC as well.

Why does there have to be league fixtures scheduled for the weekend of the wcc? We manage to not have any league fixtures when the Challenge Cup Final is on.

The fixtures have actually worked out fairly well this time. Howerver, I still don't agree with it and won't be going.

True it probably was a poor excuse but I would rather lose the first few games of the season, if it meant we would win the WCC. We could still manage to fit the WCC game in the week after the GF but then there would be more emphasis on the team travelling to play the game and excuses surrounging that.

Also with the game being at the end of the season, it gives the players who played in that season the chance to play in the biggest game in club RL. Instead of players for example like Feka moving to Salford and missing the chance to play in this huge game despite playing a part in the season, or Lima/Hoffman and Finch who could play one game and win a medal.

Suppose though thats a different subject altogether, but definately something that should be looked at in the future.

This weekend is doomed. RFL will probably try to hide a poor attendance and ticket sales by giving several thousand freebies to the local Cardiff schools, Rugby clubs etc. I really dont like the RFL heirachy, they're so out of touch with the majority of supporters.

It's not needed, not wanted and the RFL insist on it due to TV contracts.
Hopefully this one will be the last and our 14 team League can be a legitimate 26 round competition without the extra game.

Well it's a new tv contract for 2012 so maybe. Sky will insist the magic weekend stays though I think.

I'm not a fan MM so for me it can be scrapped and we should just stick with the home and away fixtures. Those in the know say were playing to many games any way, so here's a chance to trim a week off the season.

i see theyve gone back to the "derby" system after last years draw threw up a few awful games.

Best time to play saints, they have new players coming in and key players have left, they will still be adjusting. The only player who may struggle to settle in is Finch for us.

Not a fan either: doomed to failure, tv dominated, pointless money spinner. Won't be going. I'm all for expansion, but this is so obvoiusly not the way to go about it.

Not been to an MM weekend yet and won't be going to this one. Don't agree with the concept and the sooner they scrap it the better.

I don't like the extra, "artificial" fixture, but I'll be there, along with my daughter.

I have to admit though that if there has to be a "Magic" weekend, I prefer it in Cardiff than in Edinburgh.
Much closer to restaurants, etc. for afterwards, which makes it feel far more civilised.

I think it could draw a big crowd to be honest, most teams will take alot more than they did the last two years and with it being the first game that will get a few more in. The start of the season feeling will sink in and tickets will start selling.

Hotel prices in Cardiff have been expensive since the concept was introduced unless you book 18 months in advance.

Novotel Cardiff are asking for £235 per room per night for both Friday and Saturday nights.



I have booked 4 rooms at the Etap Hotel in Newport, cheap and cheerful at £35 per room per night! Return trains look to be around the £50 mark, I'm happy with £85 for 2 nights.

Newport seems easy enough to get to and from Cardiff on the train.

With the last game, The Grand Final, of the 2010 being between Wigan and Saints and the first of the 2011 season is now a meeting of our two clubs, hopefully this will kill off the Boxing Day friendly nonsense which has been mooted.
