I feel that I have got the Chairman a little wrong. Although I am still a little curious how all this is going to turn out, it looks like Mr Lenagan is smarter than I give him credit for.
Its seems obvious now that he has had Maguire lined up since his tour down under, with all the comments about speaking to people who didnt rate this player, someone recommended Ben Hannant, and since listerning to S. Wane it looks like he has put together a young and hungry coaching set up.
I hope that they can deliver.

So Thank you Mr Lenagan, for getting me excited about next season and this season isnt even over yet, and sorry I have under estimated you.

After a lot of the doom and gloom in recent years, it will be interesting to see if season ticket sales go up this year and if a few of those that gave up their season ticket come back.

Its just the business jargon he comes out with when talking about rugby that worries me, but in the past 5 days he has really impressed me.

Well some of her did keep saying that we did not know all that was going on... Some on here have been vindicated, and some look a little silly. IL is not thinking short term... The sooner you get your heads around that fact, the happier you will be. I for one am happy to be a ""happy clappy" as i was once called.

Neither do I.

I must admit, I resented being referred to as a 'happy clapper' for trying to put forward reasoned arguments in the chairman's favour. I was also called a 'cheerleader' for suggesting that we give IL a chance to develop what's now clearly a long-term stragegy. A few of those who said these things now seem to be singing a different tune (and one, whose juvenile comments were frankly pathetic, appears to have beaten the most spectacular retreat of all time

). However, I'm not one to hold grudges. I'd much rather we were all on the same side. Plus, leopards may change their spots again if MM fails to deliver silverware quickly, so I'm just content to enjoy this rare period of positivity among Wigan fans.

Not sure if you mean me, but for the avoidance of doubt:

1. IL has done nothing to endear him to me as the Chairman of Wigan RL since his appointment, and a lot to make me question his ability. In addition the way he treated BN was nothing short of shocking imo. In short I rate neither his ability nor his character at this current time.

2. The signing of MM is a massive gamble by IL. One that of course I sincerley hope pays off, but one that I, personally, would not have made.

3. I really like the attitude of SW. If some of that rubs off onto the players then Wigan RL can only benefit from this.

As I said in another thread, I don't get any pleasure seeing any poster backed so publicly into an embarrassing corner, though I think he did a lot of the backing himself.

His extreme and ill-considered rudeness, and his towering confidence that IL would get it wrong, had put clear blue water between himself and other IL skeptics like BK and AJ, who most of the time have maintained an honest level of fair-minded criticism (despite my frequent arguments with them

). Whether or not MM turns out to be a success, I can't think that there's any way back for the poster in question in the near future - as the current Wigan set-up must now be anathema to him, and for him to claim otherwise would be gross hypocrisy.

For what its worth, dont get ahead of yourself Cruncher id hate you to end up disappointed. Whilst MM and Wane sounds like a very good combination things dont always work out that way and talk is very cheap. Both of them are untried at this level and whilst i hope they get us to a final next year and im 100% behind them both i would hate for them to undo all the hard work that has been done.

Until weve seen some massive improvement on the field then i wouldnt get your hopes up too much over a couple of interviews.

You are right though talking a good talk does not equal guaranteed success but the way they speak is different to Noble in a significant way IMO. Hard to put a finger on but Noble always seemed to adopt the attitude of it will be all right on the night when things went wrong but Wane and Maguire's comments suggest to me that don't think it will be unless you are getting right long before then.

As to undoing all the good work that has been done what are you referring to? The only trophy we won this year was by a side coached by Wane. The first teams performance showed little evidence of good work. They looked off the pace fitness wise and so on - all the usual criticisms suggest there was little good work.

If you are referring to stuff outside the first team then if there is any why would they undo it?

We'll have a better idea in a year. But frankly, it's typical of you that you'll only give the 'two unknowns' (

) one season to prove themselves. If you were fair, you'd give them as long as IL gave Brian Noble - three and a half years. What's that you were saying about practising what you preach?

However, the general point is taken. There's no reason to keep arguing about this. Noble has gone and, for the moment at least, and thank God for it, Ian Lenagan has managed to inject some optimism into the club. Time will tell whether those who are determined to look on the glum side are vindicated.

Although one season to judge would be harsh three and a half is too generous. Noble took over a club at rock bottom, MM is inheriting a much healthier club both on and off the field.

I get the feeling that this thread is going to disappear up someone's backside as has sadly happened with many other threads.
