Wane simply has to deliver this season, his recent comments on the Wigan Today website (not sure which paper it was printed in), suggests he is confident. Confident that the team will come out with a 'different attitude' and that our team is 'in great shape.'

Comments like that from any head coach says to me "He must be confident of a trophy this season". Granted our team does look weaker this season, I myself am unsure about the qualities of Blake Green and Scott Taylor, but the current standards of SL probably mean that Wigan will be there or there abouts at the end of the season.

SW will not lose his job during the season IMHO, IL doesn't have a trigger happy finger. Come the end of the 2013 season though, its anyones guess. It'll just depend on results and success.

Wane is now 5/1 2nd favourite to be the first to leave (Vievers favourite at 4/1). Do the bookies know something?

A lot has changed this past week although I don't think Shaun will be sacked during the season.
The squad is still a good one for Super League but after Hock's loan the departure of all those senior players has now to be looked at as more than coincidence.
As someone mentioned, I think SW will see the season out.
If we win a trophy then he's safe and will get the one year option extention. If we end trophyless then it could very well be goodbye. That's the standards that have been set.
Either way IL has given himself time to find a replacement coach if he feels he needs one.

Unless there's something that has gone on behind closed doors that we don't know about, there's no chance Wane will leave first.

He had a good first season as a Head Coach getting to both Semi Finals, so will be given this year at least IMO.

The departure of Hock in mysterious circumstances, the non appearance of Sam preseason....yes, something has gone on, we just dont know what it is........but bookies are mostly right.
So my moneys on Wane not seeing the season out, and Sam leaving before the seasons out

Far more likely Mr Lenagan will allow Shaun Wane to run down his contract as he did with Brian Noble.

If Wigan win one of the major trophies (or get to one of the finals) this year do you think Wane's contract will be renewed?

I would think Wigan have to win either the SL GF or the CC. LL or reaching a final will not be enough.

If Wane guides Wigan to the league leaders shield with the squad he has been provided with he'll deserve coach of the year let alone an extra year on his contract.

Recent interviews with Ian Lenagan and the players say otherwise. LL should matter but the reality is it is meaningless.

It is good though to see that the Shaun Wane bashers are still out in force, the same ones that were criticising him before he had even had a game in charge. God help him the first time we lose this season.

Some people are merely repeating what Wigan RLFC, the owner, players and coach have said. So you not actually sniping at posters, you are disagreeing with Wigan RLFC.

There was no criticism of Wane implied or stated in the original post, it gave the facts of the betting odds for the first SL coach to leave this season as an interesting talking point.

I am talking more the posters with whom Shaun Wane is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt. Whatever he does, and whatever the players or IL do, it will still be Shaun Wane that is wrong in their eyes and it will all be Shaun Wane's fault. Various threads have shown this to be the case since Day 1 when he was appointed.

If the Club came out and said they would be happy if we didn't win any trophies, there would be meltdown.
So when they say they want a trophy, its immediately stated that 'this means if we don't the coach is a failure and he should go'.
What do want the Club to say ? You have to give the right message about expectation and ambition before the start of the season. I would want every player and coach at the Club to expect to be in the fight for silverware again this year. However, that doesn't mean that if we don't win any, its been a complete failure.
If we have another season like last, I would feel that SW has done a decent job and deserves to keep his position. I'd be disappointed, but realistically, it would be OK.

Should we assume Leeds are the 5th but you dont rate them?

His contract is two years with an option of a third. A final appearance might get him that extra year, a CC or GF win would guarantee it IMO.

If he does get his extra year without winning a trophy or even getting to a final then 2014 will definitely be win a CC or GF or leave.
