Be fair it was a p-poor bit of PR from the chairman regardless of how trolls point it out though
Admitting he wasn't the guy he wanted but he was the guy that was available - he could have put it a million times better
Hopefully for you he doesn't speak to him face to face in the same manner!

Talking to SSNews bloke Fraser Dainton it went something along the lines of:
FD "So what is it you see in Maguire that makes you think he will be a big success here and he is the man for the job"
IL "Well he is available whereas Steven Kearney is not as he is the New Zealand national coach ..."
It could have been much worse but he could have worded it a lot better

| Very pleased with this appointment and excited about the new season because of it.
Michael MaGuire has a top reputation as one of the best young coaches in the NRL and if Wayne Bennett and Craig Bellamy are staggered he has not been offered a job as head coach earlier then this appointment looks very promising.
Also I will add I am very pleased Shaun Wane has been given a chance as Assistant coach and can learn from Michael MaGuire. I don't know much about Shaun Wane apart from his academy/reserve sides have been very successful and from the two interviews I have seen on the official website about him he has a great attitude and if that filters down to the reserve/academy sides it is no wonder we are doing well.
FWIW Michael MaGuire has had some experience as head coach when Craig Bellamy was away on SOO and Australia.

| The King is dead, long live the king.
Wasn't bothered whether Noble stayed or went, just didnt want someone on the cheap. I do like the idea of a Aussie coach (although minor first exp) and a Wigan assistant, that looks like a nice mix. Plus he is an experienced strength and conditioner, might do wonders for the likes of Feka & Fielden.
Does anyone know what is going to happen to Radz?

| Massive gamble by IL.
Tbh not sure it's the right one, and I hope I am wrong.
Good luck to MM and I hope he can deliver.
I, however, WILL be the first to slate IL if he doesn't as, imo, it's a massive gamble.

| Great news, felt sickly with excitement when it was confirmed
And FFS, for the sake of keeping this board readable for the coming days/weeks/months/years, can we stop this whole Noble In vs Noble Out Camp now please? I appreciate this is a messageboard for airing people's views but whether Maguire is successful or not in his time at Wigan I really can't be ar$ed reading boring endless arguments about whether IL was right to get rid of Nobby or not. The decision is history and HE'S GONE!!
Rant over
Now let's get behind the new boss and roll on 2010.

IL gave about 30 other interviews around lunchtime today, during which he extolled MM's virtues. Funnily enough, your colleague hasn't chosen to quote any of those. Such selective reporting clearly indicates a trollish desire to cause bother. My response stands. He's a troll, who's more than a little peeved at this appointment, and that gives me great pleasure.

| Great news and the first step towards the coaching succession plan talked about by IL when he took over.
I wish MM the best of luck.
The moaners on here are unbelievable. If we'd got Wayne Bennett some would have complained that he's too old, has no experience of SL and is just here for the money!

Any appointment is a gamble, i personally don't think it's as big a gamble as you're implying - it's not just some guy off the street, it's assistant coach at the storm, and a person who Craig Bellamy (amongst others) thinks really highly of.
At the end of the day, the guy has to have his first appointment as head coach somewhere and his previous boss feels he's more than ready for it.
Time will tell, Justin Morgan and Nathan Brown have worked out ok at their respective clubs and didn't come into either with 'glowing first team NRL records'
