Has he? Not heard much about him since he left, how long do you reckon till his England debut? Seeing as the other English backrowers who were at Wigan at the time (Hock, J.Tomkins, O'Loughlin) have all since gone to get England caps.

| Calders could have been one of those players who would probably have thrived on having a coach like Maguire. Look at Gouldings tries this season and the ball distribution he has received from his centres and halfbacks, I reckon Calderwood would have score very one of those, unfortunately he was a victim to Noble's limited tactics.

| He went to Wigan at the wrong time and thanks to Mr Noble giving him no game time his career has never been the same as it was when he was at Leeds.

He got loads of game time. It was the ball he didn't get.

True Matty.
He came inside a lot looking for work. IIRC he linked well with Ashton, but he never seemed to get much from his centre (Bailey or Vaealiki).
I believe he could have scored a hatful working with Madge.
Some on here have short memories, as I recall the 'runs to the left' song being sung a lot about him.

| Leeds knew how to use him - hence why he was SL top try scorer the season before he joined us. The very same season that the top NRL try scorer was a certain Pat Richards (also the season before he joined us) - and we all know how well that worked out in 2006. Basically both had coaches who didn't know how to use them properly for a few seasons.

| Yes Stu, some people do have short memories, and Matty's post sums it up. Calderwood was a flair player and we still dont have a player as fast as he was, he was always coming inside and working hard, he loved playing for Wigan too.
Besta luck to him, i remember Leeds away 2006 and Bradford away (po) in 2007 amongst a few others, great times, he still has lots to offer i reckon.

| If it comes done to just pure pace then surely Dwain Chambers is a better player than all of them?.
Amos is 20 times the player Calderwood ever was. Straight line acceleration is no match for guile and cunning
Calderwood was a very lazy player who only started to come looking for work in his last season with us. His defence was shocking also.

Could be said for certain other players in the team until MAdge arrived.

| Calderwood was the scapegoat of his time.
I'd love to see the number of tries we'd have conceded had it not been for him chasing back.

The stats on Calderwood says that is complete and utter bollox. If you compare him to Pat his defence stats are generally slightly better, certainly no worse and his work around the marker area significantly better. Would you say the same thing about Pat?

| Are we really trying to compare Claderwood 2 Pat?
I would have love to have seen Calders playing at centre like Pat did when he first arrived. Or see Calderwood ever contribute 2 the team like Pat did.
Calders really is the ultimate bullet without a gun. He's got no power, a none existent fend or step and even if he worked hard it was no harder than say someone like Colbon did.
All this bull about putting him in our current side and suggesting he'd be a superstar is laughable.
All pace no ability and I'd go out on a limb and say he's one of the poorest Wigan wingers of the past 20 years.

My post didn't compare Calderwood to Pat, more Goulding who himself is no Ray Mordt when it comes to running through defenders.

Based on the areas quoted i.e. lazy and crapola defence, clearly yes. The stats across the three years when they both played in the team in those areas do not back up the previous quotes. Like I said would anyone say the same thing about Pat in those areas? Definitely not - so why say it about Calderwood when the facts show it to be untrue?

| I was replying 2 WLA post above mine.
Even Claders vs Goulding is a no contest. I don't think Calders has the ability to score some of the tries Goulding did this year. The one vs Hull especially sticks out in the memory as something we never saw from Calders.

Apart from arguably the most important try ever scored for the club you mean?

Ha ha a lot of straw clutching there.

What about it? Yes it's an important try but he only steps one person at the end and one try doesn't make a career. I'm not saying his pace doesn't make him a threat but when your game is limited to just having pace and nothing else I'm glad we got rid.
Like a previous poster said why not just get Chambers in? He'd have probably gone the length of the field and not needed Ashtons help.
