| I'd be tempted to give Vievers a go at FB, he had another good game today against Leigh. It'll be a good test to see how he will do against superleague standard oposition.

| So in our last game before the start of the season play a lad in his first SL game against a full strength Warrington side who really want to win? We should be starting with our strongest squad imo and trying to build some team cohesion and tactics. The same goes for Ben Davies etc. Not sure what sub rules we're playing under, but if it's not unlimited (and I wouldn't expect our last prep game to be a trying all sorts of combos afair) then I don't see how we can incorporate any of the lads who've only just been given a first team squad number. Just my opinion, and of course It could be wrong.

| Maguire seems to be a big Howarth fan by the looks of it then. The lad seems versitile, is a good size and has a good kicking game so he could be a very nady player to have around the squad this season.
As for the side overall for Warrington i'd go with Leuluai at 7 and Riddell at 9 and give Deacon a run from the bench. If we're playing with a raft of subs again then we can probably afford to reward Ben Davies with a place after what I believe was a fantastic showing against Leigh.

| I thought Howarths kicking game was poor yesterday in general. However he is versatile and can fit in at 6, 9 or 13.
He must be impressing in training if Maguire is willing to give him another go from the bench on Wednesday, and that's all we asked for.
I do think that Ben Davies earned himself a subs spot for Wednesday, obviously depending on the number of subs allowed.
If the number of substitutions are unlimited then even if he only gets five minutes it would be seen as reward for his fantastic display yesterday.

| I wonder whether Davies will be given a shot against wire from the bench, that way if he proves himself against greater opposition he may then be in with a short of playing against Celtic.
The same could be said for Charnley, if he can continue this on then he may just be able to displace Amos.
Sorry Rogues I didn't read you post above, or maybe you edited some extra stuff into it, since I read it.

| How tall is Charnley and is he any good under the high ball?
I know people have those issues with Ainscough and I suppose long term it is a worry but if you've got the talent that Ainscough seems to have in terms of his running and finishing game he should be able to overcome those problems.
I watched Charnley in the u21 Grand Final and he was impressive from what i remember but i'm stuggling to remember exactly how tall the lad was.

He won't, but I think Ainscough's a lot better than he gets credit for, and disagree about him belonging in the reserves.

I know we have our banter with Wire but thats a good side that and will come close to trophies again this year.
We should have a decent idea of where we're at after tomorrow night.

| The only one to make that team stronger for me is bringing in Hicks on the wing instead of Riley. My concern is we are light on props if Carvell or Morley get injured or banned.

Paul Wood must be due a full season without injury but if he doesn't get that and like you say anything happens to either of those 2 it could lead to a period of struggle.
Overall though i'd say the first 17 at Wire is just about the joint 2nd strongest in the league along with St Helens.

Good team, But, I believe they only have the edge on us in the front row, IMO we are better in every position apart from that. Hopefully MM will pick us a strong team and we can have a proper full blooded match tomorrow.

We've had this loads of time haven't we and everytime Wigan fans come up with more Wigan players and Wire fans with Wire players.
Overall i'd say the teams are much of a muchness bar your starting front row is stronger. An honest fan would probably come up with a 9-8 split either way imo.

I'll have a crack whilst i'm bored
Phelps- It's hard for us not to pick him after us watching both live last season. His form was very good in the 2nd part of the year.
King
Atkins
Carmont
Richards
S Tomkins
Briers- just ahead of Myler to kick and pass the side around the field
Carvell
Monaghan
Morley
Westwood
J Tomkins(i'd have Solomona if he were fully fit but i'm not sure)
O'Loughlin
subs
Paleaaesina
Prescott(just ahead of Wood because Wood has alot to prove injury wise)
Harrison
Leuluai
I have us 9-8 up overall but with wire having 7 in the starting line up and a full starting front row. That probably shows you'll be slightly ahead of us this year because games are won and lost in that front row.

King has the talent to maybe pip Gleeson, But i'm allowed to be slightly biased, right? If we had your front row I think we'd have the best team in the league.

Of the 13 I would have Louis ahead of Joel, Myler ahead of Briers and if he was on his game at his best Gleeson ahead of Atkins.

I thought about Anderson but i've just never seen much of him over a consistant period to suggest he should be in. I don't watch him week in week out though so it's hard to comment.
It's fair to say it's a close call in a lot of positions though. Some blinkered fans will have 13 or 14 of their own players in but the more realistic will have it pretty much split.
