Just been in a Canberra forum, literally hundreds of posts on there about the game.

Josh Hodgson getting loads of stick (justified IMO and agree with their generalised assessments which are that he wants a ball of his own and hes stopping early ball for both halves, over complicating the game and making some bad decisions out of dummy half and giving too many penalties/resets).

Yet no criticism of William's at all
And in fact, on a different thread they're praising him highly and although hes one of if not the lowest paid half backs they're praising him saying hes performing well.

Correct, be amazed if he plays next week. I thought George played a little bit too sideways today but didn’t have a poor game at all. Totally agree with 7/10. I am a big hodgson fan but in both games Canberra have lost now he has figured in the errors leading to try's. I thought Canberra tried to play the long game today and expected to win the game in last 20. We have seen Wigan throw them performances in previously and put it down to just pacing them self for when it matters at the business end?? Overall it was a below average performance but had croker scored that try they go on and win and also similar if Rapana had snook in.

I didn't see this weekend's game but last week Hodgson was pretty awful. Looked clueless out of DH sometimes and getting tackled on the 5th multiple times. Defence is poor sometimes too and gets caught out.

Agree with Jonny and Jukes; George didn't have his best game, but he was still of their better performers in a below-par side. The Raiders just aren't firing right now. How long is Bateman out for?

Why do some supporters have to distract attention away from his performance in this weeks game by attacking other members of the Canberra team?

The topic is about Williams and how well he is playing in the NRL and will he be as inconsistent as he was playing for Wigan.

We will only know if he is a success or not in the NRL that after a bigger number of games!

But on another thread you describe GB as struggling, and compare him to the visibly spent force that is James Graham. And this even though you've barely seen GB play in 2020, and haven't seen him take the field at all since March.

And if you start with this assumption then you've already in your own mind made your mind up as FACT that George was inconsistent with Wigan
If Inconsistent means was he MOM every week and single handedly winning games on his own every week then yes he was.

Apart from a 6-8 week period in mid 2017 when he was what 21/22 and the whole team was struggling with injuries the lad has been nothing but Very good to Great for Wigan IMO for 6 seasons consistently being one of the Top try scoring half backs, top assist making half backs and as I've said on numerous occasions previously the player that other coaches/team/players watch out for & admire week in week out for the last 4/5 seasons of his time with Wigan.

A couple of people earlier in the thread stated that he was getting slated by Canberra fans and that the daggers were out for him, They may be looking at Facebook or twitter (Straight away that should limit how much notice anyone takes of those opinions) but I had a quick look and like I said on a site were "Hundreds" of people and comments were being made about the season, each of the games including this weeks loss etc and their plans for 2021 I didn't see 1 Criticism of George, in fact the complete opposite, Pretty much nothing but praise.

As I've said a number of times, he's been FAR more consistent than one of the Oz pin up boys Jack Wighton and created as much if not more than him.
If George had made half the mistakes Wighton or Hodgson (Or even Crokers Decision making over the last 2/3 weeks) he would be getting pelters and the same people/Wigan Fans that made their mind up about him 3 years ago and spent the last 2/3 seasons criticising him to protect their concrete criticism of him would be all over here telling everyone they were right.
They're not, and simply coming on a board telling everyone he's getting slaughtered over there and that he's inconsistent etc. with very little evidence just because they want to give the impression that he's struggling won't wash with me.

6 games for George so far and I’d say he’s been good in three, excellent in two and quiet in his last outing.

That’s about as consistent as you’d want really. I’m yet to see a player who hits 9 or 10 out of 10 every single week.

Indeed. I'd add that in the corners of the NRL virtual world that I dip into, I've seen no criticism of George either. People have been impressed by his creativity and strong defence (he missed a few tackles last week, thoughbut). Mind you, I don't think he was helped by some poor decision-making in defence from Scott alongside him. And of course, back in the days before video refs., Croker's effort would have been a try every day of the week, and George would have had another score to add to his assist list.

Never got the stick George got at wigan I like most of you have friends who follow other clubs they said they would love him at there clubs.

Had this argument with my dad quite a lot when George was still here. He eventually came to accept that he was amazingly productive at setting up tries, but that he expected more from a half back than just scoring and assisting, and George needed to be a better at organising and managing the game. Funnily enough, now Williams has been getting some rave reviews down under he's rather changed his tune!

Like you, I think his critics underestimated his value, especially considering that plenty of our rivals have had some dross in the halves over recent years (what would Leeds have given for a Williams in the last few years?!). Having said that, I suppose if you were brought up watching some of the greats who could do it all, then I can sort of understand why you might want to push back at Williams getting put in the same bracket.

Questions are starting to be asked about Williams after Canberra's last few games. His kicking game, and Wighton's running game are the only threats they seem to have close to the line, but Williams needs to show more creativity.

3 in the NRL assists charts seems creative enough to me. He’s been their best player since the restart quite comfortably for my money.

I’d be asking questions elsewhere if I were a Canberra fan or coach or if I were a TV pundit.

That's what I alluded to earlier - People saying he's getting slated - yet when I have half an hour and go look I check forums with Hundreds of posts and nothing.
Now I don't do Twitter & I'm not going to do Facebook - But to be honest I'd take people responses off there with a pinch of salt anyway - But even so I can Zero criticism of George - But just like in todays climate, you can perceive there to be an issue just by saying there's an issue and hey presto tyou've created one where there is none, Just to back up your previously held arguments.
