| As people have said, you can't measure a real fan on certain criteria because everyones situation differs. You also can't say that the people on that video are not real fans just because they choose to walk around singing songs.

Can you measure real fans by height?

He looks like Phil Bailey you know.

Your very quote there has shown your lack of knowledge of recent away experiences in the past few years. Rugby league fans love to promote that we don't have trouble like this. We may not have had a few years ago but I'd say since 2007/2008 I have encounter more thuggery at rugby away games than I have down King Street. I won't name particular clubs' fans but there are at least 3 that come to mind straight away were people I know have been subject to attacks both physically and to vehicles. Only this weekend, 2 coaches have been bricked. I'm sure they weren't part of a group like the brigantes. Just because they call themselves something and have flags doesn't necessarily make them more of a problem than other fans

Stobart stadium 2011 - St Helens v Wigan
Final whistle and approx 8 wigan fans start fighting between themselves, women included.
No problem there then... Must just be my Wife and daughter being silly for getting scared as it kicked off next to them.

So that constitutes a "Problem in RL"... Jeez..
Looking at your posts, it strikes me you have set up this account just to have a whinge on this topic... Enjoy.

| That was obvious at the time, in fact as a family we love everything you guys try to achieve.
I was trying to point out that RL is not immune from fan violence, seen it too many times over too many years to sit back and let a post like that go unchallenged.

| We are all entitled to our views Smudger, but for the numbers of people who attend RL, i feel you are being harsh to say they there is a problem. The brick throwing at Hull on saturday were most probably people with no connection to the game, but of course we don't know for certain. The problem is with society at large, not RL.
We have all seen the occasional incidents at games, but its hardly rife.

| Hi all, I'm a Saints fan but I'm not here to criticise or add fuel to the debate - just to give a different perspective
I've not seen the video but I was at the ground when the group described on this thread arrived. I'd gone to pick up a DVD from another fan, that likes to get in early for the under 20s game, before I went back home to watch the Hull derby
The group could be heard from some distance away and came across the new bridge from town. In no way were they threatening, in fact the few people that were present were actually laughing at them as it was all good natured stuff. Most of them looked far too young to be taken seriously and they appeared to have taken style lessons from One Direction. If anyone was offended it would say more about them than this group
I'm not saying what they did was sensible but at most you could say it was provocative if done at the wrong time and in the wrong place. However they got to the ground very early and as a result there were hardly any fans (Wigan or Saints) around to even be provoked
To sum up they come across as silly, harmless kids trying to bring a bit of fun and atmosphere back into supporting the club they clearly love. They'll grow up and learn and in time will be able to laugh about how daft they were

| I loved the Brigantes when the came over to MS3CP for the friendly this year, They brought a good atmosphere into the RM stand which is always a very quiet place in comparison to the East. I think it's great what they're doing and wouldn't want them to stop - I think most of the comments slating them are envy. If they get any publicity they will attract people to RL, The only fear is that it's the wrong people to attract, which is quite possible. If any trouble is handled right it can be stamped out before it evolves into '80s football violence. I accept the irony, being a Rovers fans and posting about it being easy to stamp out trouble, I guess this in itself serves as a stark reminder that you don't need an Ultras firm to attract trouble.
Carry on Wigan, I've had the "Cherrrrryyyy annddd Whhhittteeeesss... Na Naa Naaa Naaan Naaanaaaaaaaaa" song in my head for a few weeks now.

| Threads about the Brigantes always seem to end up with pages and pages and end up going off on a tangent, usually about greatly exaggerated consequences of what they do.
There's no reason for people to be outraged by what they saw in the video, it was hardly going to cause a riot. A bit of perspective is needed for people going OTT.
Walking with the banner down the road in front of traffic is daft. It will probably needlessly annoy some people. Having said that if I was going to choose some people to annoy it wouldn't be ones that were encased in metal.
Some of the chants were out of order. Using chants with that sort of language around the town centre (I believe that's where they were) shows a lack of respect. Not everyone around cares about the game or wants to hear that sort of language or their children to hear that sort of language. I'm not one for being offended by any sort of language but some people are, it seems it's generally considered inappropriate, it's unnecessary.
As for walking round with scarves over their faces, they aren't harming anyone, they just look like idiots.
They don't appear to like the people on this forum much (to put it nicely), a lot of people on here don't seem to like them.
Not many people seem interested in finding a middle ground to make things better. Some people just want to criticise them for everything and were against the idea from the start and will continue to be that way. Likewise a few of the Brigantes that have posted on here and their board seem to be stubborn and have no interest in listening to genuine opinions people put forward and turn any slight dissent, no matter how small the matter might be or how it's put forward, into an 'us' vs 'them' 'you're either with us or against us' argument.
Talk of silent protest or banners is just ridiculous. Get a grip, you're rugby fans singing songs at games and generally doing some very good things and making a good atmosphere. You're bound to feel hard done by if you put a lot of effort into what you do only to be criticised in the process but it's hardly political.
It just seems a little ridiculous that there's such contempt going both ways.

After alot of ridiculous comments on this thread and even worse on Redvee it takes a Saints fan to put a sensible perspective on things. Thanks for posting. I should watch out though because sensible comments are not the norm on rlfans!
