| When I started watching Wigan in the early 80's fans would clap both teams as they entered the pitch
my dad tells me a story of brian bevan going past a full back with such skill that even the full back applauded him on the way to the line
Called sportsmanship and why we're rl fans not football fans
there's a saying along the lines of "if you can't take a beating then don't bother turning up"

With you 100% on that Rogues.... Could not stand the booing... Pathetic. some people need to "man-up". I'm glad i never played in the same team as some of the whingeing gutless buggers sat around me.

I agree they played well, and you are correct in that dureau played very well, it's not that I think they didn't I just don't agree with the home fans applauding them. It's just my opinion of course and it's no more correct than yours, don't think it makes me one eyed mind, in the same way as your opinion doesn't make you less of a fan. I'd like to think that not applauding the other team is not the same as being a sore loser, I didn't boo Wigan either!

| I clapped them because they were entertaining and playing some great attacking rugby and I also clapped Wigan when they scored and did some good things aswell (although very rare). The real problem is so called "fans" booing the team and leaving with 15 minutes remaining.

| Sounds like they deserved a round of applause and it sounded like our lot deserved the boos too. If i had gone, i would have done both. Sounds like we served up utter dross...

| That Catalans performance was probably the best I've seen against us since we have been at the DW/JJB. They ripped us apart and only for a clumsy forward pass in the first half it would have been worse.

It wasn't a round of applause at the end of the match - that's normal for me, except when we play St.Helens and Warrington!

| I assumed the applauding was a sign of dissent from the Wigan faithful.
That said, I neither clapped or booed.

That just about sums up the bitterness thesedays you get from Wigan fans towards the mighty Wire.

Only a pleb would come on here to gloat after their own team have been pumped on the same evening.
But then again, this is you we are talking about.

I clapped them and most people round me did. It's called sportsmanship.

Yeah i know, But if you're being outplayed and they score a good try, then you have to take you're hat off to 'em. Personally i don't see anything wrong with applauding a good try from the opposition...

Agreed. They put in a tremendous performance tonight (especially considering their short turnaround when they beat Wire on Sunday). That's probably the best they have played for a good few years and unfortunately for them they had no support tonight (didnt actually see ANY of their fans). They deserved applause.

Your post just about sums up the Wire Glory Hunters! Rugby League didn't start 2 years ago when you won a cup love.

| Booooooo!
That was to the fans who can't show respect and appreciation to the other team for good play. I will applaud the opposition for a good play AND a good score, I won't cheer. It's something that I think the younger generation call "respect", apparently something they deserve but not from what I have read in this thread.

| Here we gk again we always have stupid threads like this- who cares what the other fans do as long as they aren't fighting, setting fires and raiding the pitch!! I didnt clap, didn't boo and stayed till the end but that doesn't make me any more of a fan than people who clapped, booed and left early, it's up to them what they wanna do when they go to the matches as long as it stays within the law.

How so? Wigan lost and many fans applauded the Dragons play. I say good sportmanship, respect what others have done and say "well done". Isn't this something that's done in Warrington?

| I didn't applaud their tries, I didn't boo the Wigan lads - I'd never ever boo them.
But I can understand people clapping the Cats tries, they put a bit of effort in.
IL said in the South Stand Bar after hearing our fans clap the Catalans players it brought tears to his eyes and he appreciated the muted booing from our fans...
