| These threads are boring. They are two completely different players in different positions, just because they were exchanged in the same deal, why do they need to be compared?
Mathers would probably have been released by Wigan anyway, it just wasn;t working there for him. At Wire I have been impressed. He is much more of an all rounder than I expected, with more of a ball playing role. Hopefully under Smith he will go well.
At right Centre we have not struggled, as Bridge now has the position and that is working well too.
Wigan have signed a very good player in Gleeson, and when they start to get quality ball to him, he will do well.
Surely we are all happy with the deal?

| Don't need to compare the two's performances. Still the best bit of business Wigan have EVER done.
Gleeson could be tied to the posts all game and it would have a more positive effect on our performances than if Mathers plays. If Mathers does good for Warrington then I'm glad for him - but it doesn't change the fact that the best thing for Wigan was for Mathers to leave.

Good post. Both parties seem happy with the deal so thats all there is to say on it really.

| Getting fed up with these threads now. We are happy to have a specialised full back to replace Reardon, plus £100k, and we have got rid of a player who has made no secret of the fact that he wanted another club.
You have got rid of a player tou don't want and have an international centre playing for his home town club.
All happy.

| Quote ="Jukesays"Couldn't have anything to do with the constant criticism/pressure etc that Wigan players (Or should I have said "Whomever the Scapegoat at that present time is"icon_wink.gif get from certain sections of the Wigan public.
There is No other club/fans that put the amount of pressure and criticism on individuals so quickly and their only Tactical solution to a Wigan defeat is "Player "A" or "B" is crap get rid and they don't get off his back until he's gone!
Player AorB disappears and you know what? Same old problems are there!
TBH it's not so much the criticism of certain aspects of the players game that irritates as much as the Personal Insults against players that NONE of us would be within a Million miles of ever being as good as that Narks!
5 mins into this season and Wakey kicked a ball into touch 10 mtrs from West Stand and as the ball was rolling towards the sidelines the same old Numpties near me start off with the :- "Pick it up Mathers you useless Blah Blah Blah"!
Anything that was remotely in his vacinity was immediately thrown at him as his Fault!
My mate turned and said he may as well go now as Nothing he ever did would make these lot Happy until they Hound him out of the club!
The same can now be said for Riddell/Pryce/Roberts/Fielden/Bailey and has previously applied to Richards/Coley.
The same fans that Called Richards not fit to burn now hold him up as "SuperPat"!'"
100% agree Jukesy. I remember going to the Catalans away game last year and Mathers was getting "bloody hell mathers" constantly during the warm up. We need supporters supporting not criticising.

| Unfortunately Richie will never lose his "dodgy" tag from us - some justified some not - and where as I wish him all the best, I think both clubs got a good deal for what THEY wanted.
Wigan wanted Gleeson
=
Wire wanted excessive cash
=
Wigan offered Mathers who if were being honest never settled in the club
=
Wire get rid of Gleeson who is seen as a 'bad egg' and not wanting to be there
=
Fresh start for both clubs and both players.

Yet was one of the VERY few players to return from last year's world cup debacle with any sort of credibility...

| There's no point in comparing both players.
They play different positions and neither apparently excelled at their previous club.
Both clubs have apparently benefited from their new signings. End of.

| In my opinion Mathers had the Wigan fans on his back from his first game he was never given a long enough chance to prove himself he is a confidence player and was never given the chance to build that confidence either by the fans or the club going back to a coach he knows well and fitting back into his style of play has done him a world of good.
Gleeson on the other hand never wanted to go to Warrington it was only the Saints i will never deal with the Wigan club again attitude that stopped him coming here from Saints. I am sure he did his best for Warrington but when deep down you dont want to be there and knowing your home town club wanted you it must be hard. Since coming to Wigan he looks happy and has defiantly lifted the club we still play a one sided game as we are not used to having a good on that side yet but it will come and i am sure he will be a very big asset later in the year for us.

| THis may seem a little strange, but; do your half bacls ahave a strong left-to-right passing game?
Gleeson was given space by Briers, in no small part down to his ability to pass to his right.

Not sure if they can pass well from left to right but they don't do it much.
We used that left hand side of Leuluai, Hock, Carmont and Richards/Ainscough far more then the other side.
I feel abit sorry for Gleeson in attack tbh. He is a player that just looks like he loves to have the ball in his hands and he must get about 4 touches a game here at Wigan.
He's playing pretty well in all fairness to him but more from a defensive point of view because in attack he may aswell not bother coming on the pitch.
Having Bailey on his inside doesn't do him many favours.

Well I thought so, but Gleeson hasn't touched the ball any where near as much I would of liked/expected him to. I've noticed him coming further in field to look for work too. Still, he's reletively new to the squad and it'll take time to gel.
Overall, the improvement on that side has been 100%.

Thats only 3 games..he's actually played 4. I would say he's had 1 excellent game 1 good game and 2 average games but thats only my opinion and I quite respect yours.
One thing that is fact is that Warrington have won all four games in which he has played which can only be a positive.
I didn't really take too much notice of Mathers at Wigan as unlike some I'm much more interested in my own team's players than slagging off the opposition's.
One thing I would say is I've seen more passion commitment and hunger from Mathers in a month than I saw from Gleeson in 3 years!

That's unfair.
Gleeson for me did everything we asked and more.
I think youre forgetting how much of a decent player he made a donkey like fa'afili look, Riley score 15 tries in half a season last year and Hicks about the same with what little time he had on the wing.
A complete centre
