| That was truly awful but for me you cannot blame Lam for the individual errors that were made all game and cost us, it’s probably testament to the team spirit that we even had a chance of winning with a minute to go.
Also Hardaker had a shocker but it’s not really his fault he’s our designated kicker, he’s never been a regular kicker at any other team and I’m loathed to give him too much stick after the season he had.
Really tough one too take but I don’t think it’s possible to play much worse than that and we still actual had a chance of winning the game with a minute to go against one of the better teams in the league,
Glass half full perspective.

Agree on both.
IL and Rads (if he doesn't get moved on as well) need to be shopping around now, not waiting to see if we win the GF.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Lam is out of his depth.

This should be the reckoning now for this team. I don’t want to see Bateman being asked to perform a role for ‘the good of the team’ when he should be playing a role that suits him because he’s that good. The young lads will always lack size, they aren’t going to put on 2 stone and increase their power output to turn us into consistent winners. We need big bodies. I’m frustrated with Lam, have never been a big fan of his but we’ve been mis-sold/blatantly lied to by Radlinski who seems to sit in an ivory tower, untouchable for the decisions he makes and how the squad has been shaped. We aren’t entitled to win anything but I think as fans we are entitled to see action in how the squad is structured instead of hiding behind a ‘Wigan-born first’ mentality. Enough is enough now.

| Quote ="Trainman"Lam can’t be blamed for this. The game has been lost by stupid and/or careless individual errors. Byrne at the start of the game. Hardaker and French dropped balls on tackle 1. Smithies late hit on the kicker, this list goes on.
We continually gave them ball in good positions and forced ourselves to repeatedly start sets to clear our own line.
That last play sums up the game for us.
For me, next week we go Hardaker to centre and French to full back. We look more dangerous that way.
Oh, can Harry Smith take over the kicking?'"
Lam can’t be blamed for this? Really? Another big game bottle job in a long list of bottle jobs in Lam’s teams yet he can’t be blamed? Good discipline breeds good discipline, likewise with bad discipline. Week in week out you see snippets of poor discipline, hitting the kicker late (I mean WTF?). He should be on top of that but he isn’t; going for 2 30m out with Hull on the back foot and then MISSING? WTAF?
It’s SL or bust for Lam IMO. I don’t begrudge Hull a win here, if we’d played wel and still lost fair enough, it happens. But it’s the manner of the loss, the lacklustre play the abhorrent discipline. It’s tough to even start to be honest.
However that last line - 1million% needs to happen.

Worst thing that happened to us was us having a decent end to last season as it kept him in a job.
We will finish top two this season no sweat but I’d be stunned if we got a Grand Final win.

10-15yrs ago fans were bemoaning the opposite - the lack of Wigan born players in the team. Along comes a certain Mr Wane and he said “I want 13 Wigan born lads in the team” (or words to that effect). Well, be careful what you wish for there (in terms of the forwards).
I completely agree with your post BTW.

| That was a game of individual errors and poor decisions. Hardaker had a bad game, silly penalties, the Isa knock on was just unforgivable. At the biggest moments in the big games, you need your most experienced players to do at least the basics, catch the ball and pass, if he does that we probably score...

| You certainly can't win them all and players have bad games. That's sport.
What I'm not having however, is the lack of learning on Lam's part. Whilst he's not the sole reason for the loss, he plays a part.
He should have learnt the lessons from last year. Instead he not only went with a light bench, but also didn't use said bench as well as he should. Leaving Bullock off was criminal.
Outside of that there's been talk about a lack of prop rotation i.e Clarke and Kilner. There was talk that not only are our props out of form and not under pressured to perform, but a suspension or injury leaves us open to a day like today. If he'd have at least tried Clarke or Kilner, we'd have known what our options are.

Let's not go OTT in the face of a loss.
With 10 secs left we still had a chance to draw level Vs a good good side. We didn't play well, but let's not pretend we are as poor as Leigh are.
Not sure what's happened to the ability to provide a balanced opinion.

I wouldn’t be too sure about a top 2
Hull, Wire, Cas, Catalan and Huddersfield are all more than capable of turning us over.
We have great defence and fitness but for me you cannot play a full season in virtually every game where we are on the back foot for large parts of the game and struggle to make yardage
We have one prop who may become a top player the rest are average at best or next to useless
I’m a lone voice but a back row of Farrell Isa and Bateman is too small particularly in tight games where you’re front row is basically a defensive unit with little hope of go forward

From what I heard he has taken up full time employment outside the game. Sadly it's one of the consequences of no reserve team rugby.

| In the wet weather our issues in the forwards are exposed badly. Very difficult to shift the ball wide and allow the second rowers and centres to let the props off the hook.
Hardaker kicking two kickoffs out on the full is shameful. Surely we should have given Hastings or Smith a shot at the goal kicking at the start of the year?
Lam won't be starting Liam Byrne again any time soon.
Far too much dropped ball and ill discipline - Smithies doing exactly the same thing he did in the GF beggars belief.
Bullock probably should have been brought on sooner but he's not the saviour of our pack that some seem to think he is. Fell off the tackle on Satae and he'd been on all of 5 minutes.
Hull looked a far better rugby team and they didn't get out of 2nd gear.
We've ground some results out this year, which Lam has always been able to do in fairness. But our key issues have not changed and you don't need to be particularly insightful to see it - small forward pack, poor goal kicking and inconsistent big game performances.

Or the consequence of not getting picked, despite having ineffectual guys in front of him.
Tbf I don't know the lad, but this situation doesn't paint him in the best light imo. I understand that he needs to get a wage, but he's immensely talented and still young. Sport in general is littered with late bloomers that had very good careers.
He's got more potential than Bullock (he's not a better player yet tho). Go away from Wigan, but surely stay in the game and give it another year as a regular player.
