| Quote ="DaveO"I think it will be Wane but Edwards contracts are up with both Wales and his cub soon. So until Wane is announced or Edwards signs new deals in RU you can bet the speculation won't go away.'"
The timing of us needing a new coach and Edward's contract with the WRU will happen at the same time. Rumors are that the WRU are trying to keep Warran Gatland on as Headcoach so i would assume that means Edwards would be as well. But the longer this runs the more likely is that Gatland wont stay after the World Cup this autumn. With hardly any chance of Edwards getting the England job regardless of how well they do it will leave him in a situation where the time is right. Martin Offiah had an article in the Mirror yesterday where he thinks Edwards will coach Wigan at some point but not now.
But i disagree if i was a decent coach and i got offered the job looking at that sqaud and what it could be capable of it might be the only time in his career where he will take over a side that needs hardly anything dont to it. His situation at Wasps im not certain of but they are now nearer the bottom of their league than top. If they fail to get European top tier rugby could put his job under pressure. Also given that he got suspended for an apparent fight with another member of the coaching team last month might be enough to persuade him to take the Wigan job.
I would rather Wane or Edwards gets the job than look for a coach from the NRL who once they get the smell of money they are off. And i dont blame him for going. If you offered me loads more each week then i wold be off as well. But we need stability now and that only comes from a British coach if hes any good.

| All this talk of Edwards and Brown etc is getting off the track for mine. The job has to go to Wane!
He will have spent two years working under one of the NRL's rising stars and that is essential if we are talking stability. He has done everything needed to justify being given a chance. Remember last July when Wigan had suffered defeats against Saints and Wire and then had difficult away games against Hull and Leeds. Madge returned to Aus for a few weeks leaving Wane in charge. Well we needn't have worried because the performance in those games was outstanding and were two of Wigan's best games in a successful season. Coincidence? I think not.
Wane is a Wigan lad who is passionate about the club and has shown loyalty and willingness to learn his trade as a coach. The club now needs to repay that loyalty and give him his chance. I would like to see the club make an early announcement so that it avoids a period of uncertainty and so that everyone can plan ahead for next year knowing what the setup is going to be.
If Edwards becomes available then maybe consider him in some sort of assistants role but not if it risks upsetting the staff already there i.e. Radlinski and Deacon. Remember that Edwards has been out of RL for over ten years now.

| We always knew Madge would only be here for a limited amount of time, and that he was already highly thought of in Oz. The way he has transformed the players and the structures and ethics he has brought were always going to get him a head coaching job back in Oz. What disappoints me about this, is not that we're losing him, but the speed in which it's happened. We're only two months into Madge's second season and he's done a deal to go elsewhere. I appreciate he's a visitor to our shores and it can be hard for a family living away from home. I also accept that SL can't compete with NRL, but it's still disappointing the speed of his decision to go.

| Disappointed to see Maguire go, but can't blame him either. There were always rumours that the third year of his contract was an option, so I see no problem with him leaving at the end of the season. We are lucky that we've had a coach of his caliber for two years and I wish him nothing but the best given his achievements so far.
The important thing for the club now is continuity - the logical appointment is Wane as he has been involved in the day to day workings of the Maguire era and will therefore know which players to target for next season and beyond to prevent a transition phase. I can understanding the concern about him not serving his apprenticeship, but nothing is a sure thing, on the plus side he has enough experience in the game and a great track record at all levels below head coach - its time to give him his chance.

| A year too early?
Come off it, he's plied his trade with Wigan for years. Starting at U18s and progressing up through the squads and ranks and has now established himself as one of the most respected people at the club. I'd love to see a Shaun Wane head coach and Shaun Edwards assistant coach partnership.
Whatever the partnership, Wane deserves his long-awaited shot at Head Coach.

To coach the games most famous club who average 3 times the crowds Huddersfield can pull in. A good stint in charge of Wigan would help his chances of getting an NRL job aswell as people in Australia would take far more notice of him working in a big team enviroment at Wigan then they would at Huddersfield.
That last reason is the exact one as to why I wouldn't want him at Wigan. He's a great coach but we need somebody for the long term now.

| Edwards can't come to Wigan at a time of his own chosing!
If he wants it now then he must speak to IL and inform him.
If he's keeping his options open then tough, the decision on who follows Mcguire needs to be taken now to end uncertainty and provide continuity.
Therefore it has to be Shaun Wane.
It may be too soon, it may not be, there is only one way of finding out. As has been said, when he was i/c for the two matches last season the team were superb.
I do hope that IL doesn't try and play "fantasy league coaching" with Edwards but settles for Shaun Wane.
Wane will provide that continuity and stability we need at the club.

I'd cringe at the thought of Edwards being Wanes assistant tbh. It would be a huge shadow hanging over Wane having a club ledgend like Edwards as his assistant and at the first site of trouble people would be calling for their roles to be reversed.
Edwards wouldn't take that role anyway in all honsty.
Head coach- Wane
Assistant- Kris Radlinski
Is what we'll see imo.

| It's my opinion that Wigan are where they are today because of the cutting edge techniques and methods Madge has brought over from the NRL. Edwards while I'm sure he's a great motivator, hasn't been privy to any of the latest goings on in Rugby League for a long time. So while there's a certain romance about Edwards rejoining Wigan. I'm unsure he'd be qualified enough to follow on from Madge.

Wigan could do worse than 2 years with Anderson to make sure wane is ready for the job. Giving him the job too early risks undoing all the good work that has been done for the last 18 months

We've had our fingers burned before going for an ex Saints man and i'd rather not take the risk.
Wane won't undo any of our good work. He's played a huge part in us going forward along with Mark Bitcom and they'll both continue to push us on along with Kris Radlinski.

I am glad someone else can see sense, for all Edwards has done well in RU (although the last year or so have not exactly been all wonderful) it is very, very different from coaching a top SL side. How would people feel if Edwards did get the job and made a complete hash of it - the romance would soon fade then.
For all the dreams of some Shaun Edwards is not a rugby league coach and every year that he has been away from the game lessens his potential as a RL coach. Sure he may well be able to pick up the knowledge and make a go of it, [iin time[/i but it would be a huge risk. Why take that when we have a RL coach who has gained experrience at all levels and already learned from Madge - Wane should be the automatic choice unless there is a top, top class [iproven[/i RL coach available (ie a Wayne Bennet).

| I think Jason Taylor would be great choice for you lot. He's a good young coach who I think is out of the game at the moment.
Anderson IMO will never come, he only left saints for family reasons. He loved it at saints and wanted to stay but he put his family first and moved back down under.
