I've said that for months a FB. but after watching Phelps last night he controlled the line every well from the FB position, not bad positioning and taking the ball back, so I now think the FB could wait till next year when Fielden goes. World Class FB and Prop with his wage.

This year as I've said sign Myler before another club does! send him to Salford on Loan, whilst Long tutors Tomkins, on lets say alot cheaper a wage then the likes of Orford and Lockyer.

But yet we'll sign Lockyer Orford or Thurston?

Some of the information regarding Wakefield is so wide of the mark it is untrue, although i understand they are interested in him the figures being thrown about there are ridiculous! For this reason i would highly doubt your sources reliability on this one.

Thurston - Wants more $$$ like Lockyer did 2 years ago when he mentioned the wrotes "I'd like to play SL"

Lockyer - No chance, he will coach at Brisbane after one more year at the club.

Myler - About 3-4clubs will fight for his signature in 4months time

Orford - Hull FC or St Helens will sign him before us

We don't sign big named Aussies, bar Barrett.

Dobson - Hull KR for 3/4 years. Under Morgan I'd stay!

Say Danny Sculthorpe leaves Wakey, his wage could nearly buy them Long!!

Personally I see Sam as a 7 so we should be looking to sign a stand-off. Therefore Lockyer would be my ideal signing for all the same reasons as Long only 10 times better.

He's got the experience and is the ultimate professional who would be very influential for all the young lads in the squad. I'd be doing everything in my power to try and sign him. However I do agree this is less realistic but I can still dream.

Tomkins at 6
Orford at 7 (And yes it is realistic, how many people said we could get Barrett?)

Tommy/Macca at 9

NO LONG. If he's not good enough for the "best team in SL" then we don't want him. We don't want ex-good players, we want good players and we want to win the league.

Long is hardly an amazing passer of the ball and certainly not at the level of Barrett or Smith. Leuleui can pass just as well as what Long can imo. I wouldn’t say he’s world renowned for slipping players through gaps either and he’s certainly not been doing that of late at Saints.

At the end of the day the main fact you seem to be skipping over time and time again is that if Long is as great as your making him out to be and beloved by the Saints fans why do they want rid?

I’m sure if we looked hard enough in the NRL we could easily find another Dobson type player with a good kicking and organisational game as that’s all Long would offer us.

There must be at least 10/15 player’s minimum of Dobson’s ability waiting for their shot in the NRL. We’ve already seen the depth they have in the HB position in the NRL – Marshall, Lockyer, Thurston, Inglis, Barrett, Anasta, Kimmorley, Fein, Carney, Hornby and others could probably add more that would be stars in SL. They are producing top quality HB’s as if it was a conveyer belt over there.

There are other options.

That has nothing to do with anything though. Wakefield have not as yet made Long and offer and if they do it will not be anywhere near the figures quoted, hence i take it with a very large pinch of salt.

Lockyer/Orford, whats to say they would play good over here? Complete different country and different sport to be honest. SL is nothing compared to NRL, cost a fortune to bring them here, and if they didn't perform, imagine the field day, people on here would have in signing an over paided, old Aussie!!

Because Lockyer is arguably (tough call between him and Andrew Johns) the best player to grace the world stage in the last 10-15 years. I don't think he'd have trouble coping in Super League.

Long is a great player and the best British scrum-half since Edwards IMO but given a choice bewtween the two I'd take Lockyer any day of the week. Better player and a better professional.

I agree Tommy's not a 7 (and even started a thread about 18 months to two years ago asking us to sign Dobson when there were rumours he was unsettled in Oz but was shot down by most) but I feel Sam is a 7 therefore we would need a 6. Matter of opinion I suppose as to where you see Sam playing long-term.

People have lived on teh rumor from 2/3 years now, because he wanted a new contract in Oz. He'll stay there. We'll be beaten to orford by someone else. So who is there?

Tommy is not a 7, he's proving it this year. Tommy and Riddell to move to 9 next year, with Macca going on loan, unless the 'home sick' rumors are true of Riddell.
