Sammut is still a good player, I can’t imagine he would cost the earth unlike Drinkwater and it would be his last chance to win something.

Given the option of Sammut or nobody I can see us bringing him in.

If we’ve known we needed a scrum half for months and end up with Sammut I think that’s poor form tbh. He’s never shown himself to be anything more then a maverick, a player capable of some individual moments but certainly not the structured type of half you feel we need to partner Williams.

It sounds like he may be heading for Leigh from the rumours I’ve read anyway and that would seem his level.

I agree that people are potentially setting their sites a bit high talking about Drinkwater and Sneyd due to cap value, but I'd rather take an untested young antipodean a la Hamlin than Sammut, or even a younger Championship scrum half to add competition who we feel we could develop. Sammut probably wouldn't be first choice ahead of Leuluai/Powell at this point, so really all he would be doing is blocking opportunities for Shorrocks/Woods.

I think Sammut knows he can't do a season of SL, he's a really weak defender and at 31/32, thats not going to change.

You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s embarassing, he was barely good enough for SL hence why he dropped down into the Championship. That signing would represent a huge drop in ambition.

We have TL at 7 with George and Powell who can play there.
Under contract with us are Shorrocks and Woods with Harry Smith surely getting a game or two in 2019.

Harry Smith looks a really good prospect. Wigan have offered him a new contract.

It’ll be interesting to find out which players these are. Fingers crossed it’s Shaun Johnson and Nikorima though I’ll be the first to admit that I’m in cuckoo land with that one

Shaun Johnson is not being offered a contract at NZ Warriors beyond 2019. He has posted on his Facebook page that he is now exploring his options and spreading his wings for 2020. In my wildest dreams I can see a small glimmer of a chance he’ll come to us but realistically I just can’t see it happening. I do wonder why NZW aren’t offering him a new deal.

Even if his form has dipped in the NRL, I would imagine he'd still be a star over here. Please for the love of god we're exploring this. Chances are e'll not get him and we'll end up with Sammut.

The way I see it with Johnson is he’s still a good player and will have plenty of suitors in the NRL, the Warriors just don’t think he’s worth his current wage and have refused to extend his deal.

I would be very suprised if he ends up in Superleague.

I agree. He’ll be 29/30 years old in 2020 and could give us 3 great years on marquee status under Shaun Edwards. As unlikely as it may be, the thought is quite mouth watering.

For me, Johnson is the calibre of player worthy of a true marquee signing. If he's available, we should be using our marquee and status to sign him.

Agree regarding SJ, would be the most significant signing since we brought in Trent Barrett and would expect he could have similar impact.

There's a big gap between him and Blake Austin, not a chance of us attracting him, marquee or otherwise, unless he leaves the NRL in disgrace..... I'll spike him, you set up the compromising photographs

Putting aside the obvious question of whether or not Johnson would even contemplate a Super League switch, I seriously doubt Wigan would be willing to put together the finance needed to interest him.

Johnson won’t be coming super league. He’s just leaving NZ Warriors because they don’t think he’s worth 1 million per year, which is right, he isn’t.

Just let us dream for a bit, this is the closest we have been to a rumour since the ‘I saw Ryan Cross in Frankie & Bennys’ drama.
