The slight problem with this is that it’s clearly not all down to Lam.
We simply don’t have the tools to do the job.
Our recruitment has been suicidal at best and to see this team go from side to side due to absolutely no go forward is sad to see.
I was one of the few who stated that Lam wasn’t ready for the Wigan job but it’s clear he has been completely undone by shocking recruitment.

| So who is selecting the team? Is it Lam alone or does he ask for input then ignore it? What on earth is going on?
Again he selected the young props whilst our three other senior props were sat in the stand. Week in and week out Lam is flogging these young forwards when their careers are not at the stage to be starting props every week. Especially with the workload of playing more games than any other club due to Covid.
Cas on Monday is a nightmare waiting to happen and at this rate Wire will have a field day. What does worry me though is if Lam puts those young forwards out v Catalans who have probably the biggest pack in the league. Lam simply must be prevented from doing that. Whether we like them or not Bullock, Clubb, Clark & Singleton all have to play against that huge Catalans pack. Lam also has to change tactics.
The idea that we can kick long and chase hard after playing more games than anyone is ludicrous. He has to slow the game down and slow the opposition down. Not in the tackle or wrestle as we'd concede too many pens and restarts. Simple enough and he must do it.

| We don't have a wonderful squad, and it certainly has weaknesses, but it is certainly good enough to be competitive at the top of SL. There aren't many SL sides who wouldn't want an in-form Hastings, Gildart, Farrell, Marshall etc. It's impossible to think another coach could not have got more out of these players, considering how far we've gone backwards.

We’re short at prop, make no bones about it but we’re not this short. We got mullered in the middle against Saints but not tonight. In that first half we made ground and still don’t do anything with it.

| Yeah, but I just don't fully buy this catch-all argument that lack of props is the top and bottom of the problem. There have been plenty of times in recent games, including tonight, where we have in fact had a fair amount of field position, but our attack still looks blunt when we reach our opponents' 20. And that's surely down to basic coaching.

Don’t disagree hence the reason Rads should go too.

| Rads/Lenagan may have left Lam short of top quality at prop but they can’t be forcing him to not picking Bullock or Clark (two lads who will at least go forward), picking a back row forward at hooker, forwards in the centres, a mountain of young middles all at the same time, making him not show trust in young backs, young hookers etc. Our attack is possibly the worst I’ve seen of any team in the history of superleague and Lam should feel pretty embarrassed about that.

| There are too many average players in the squad who are not even in decent form. Field is still too ‘untested’ to comment but senior players like Bibby, Singleton, Powell, Clarke, Bullock, Clubb are just not good enough even if they hit some form. Then the younger players are not ready to play every week but have potential. Players like Havard, Byrne, Smithies, Partington and KPP should have been drip fed into the team, not relied upon to carry us. Smith simply cannot be given the responsibility of being our 1st choice half next season, he needs a seasoned pro alongside him which I fear won’t come. Bateman has been a shadow of the player he can be and Hastings is left to try to do it all by himself. It’s so easy for a defence to plan. Put numbers on Hastings because nobody else has a clue how to unlock them!

The selection would suggest that both Bullock and Clarke (both signed by Rads) are not impressing at training.
It’s almost as if they have known for a while that they are not wanted…

Lam needs to go. I fear it won’t be enough and that the malaise runs deeper but he needs to go.
We need a strong Wigan. We need Wigan, Leeds, Wire, Saints, Catalan all firing and we’d have a great league. This league is poor and Wigan being poor is just so damaging.
Good luck.'"
Same here mate, watched it in a pub at an East coast holiday resort with a real good mixture of mainly Yorkshire clubs fans. Never thought I'd see the day when Yorkshire fans (apart from Rhino's) would be showing so much sympathy for a Wigan team. Exactly the same things were being said about no cherry and white and no atmosphere at the DW and more importantly Super League needs a strong Wigan. Too many players don't look interested and it doesn't make for good TV.

Extremely possible but we watch them in games making ground at least and we lack that exact quality. The thing that really baffles me is that we’re clearly under the pump and the pressure is huge. It’s not a great environment to keep letting young forwards try and run themselves in to the ground. I’d just throw guys like Bullock and Clark in, if only to help shield Havard, Byrne, Partington etc a bit more.

It’s just sad but not surprising.
It’s really hard to motivate players when they know they are not wanted and that’s not down to Lam.
I really hope that people ask the right questions about recruitment next week.
FWIW I think Bullock is a good pick up for Wire.

I wouldn’t absolve Lam of blame on guys like Clark and Bullock not feeling wanted. I watch Bullock come on, make more ground then any other prop we have and he gets hauled off after 10 mins and we don’t see him again. It’s Lams job to get the best from them and whether that be on the training field or in games, he’s just not done it. What Clark did in those back to back games he scored try’s in that was so bad he’s been dropped since is beyond me.

It’s a good point and I agree with that.
I actually quite like Bullock and Clarke has shown potential but it’s just plain weird that neither seems to be able to hold down a place and get some consistency.
One for next week!

I’d use the pair for the rest of the season tbh, if only to give Havard and Byrne the time out of the fire. Let them two get battered about and feel the mental effect of the struggles we’re facing because they won’t be here after this season and we won’t have to worry about building them back up. Any new coach is going to have to work hard to really build the confidence back up in some of the players who will still be with us.

| Havard looks shot. Desperately needs a rest after carrying the weight of the entire pack on his shoulders for far too long.
I appreciate we have signed Mago and Ellis for next year, not both are still kids in real terms in their positions.
We desperately need another 28-31 year old battled hardened prop.

Lams turned on the players now:
https://www.seriousaboutrl.com/lam-slam ... ers-42509/
Quote It was Adrian Lam’s birthday today, but he was far from happy with what his Wigan side dished up against Leeds at the DW Stadium.
The Warriors went down 14-0, with an attack that looks void of confidence and a team that seems to lack any kind of communication.
And, Lam can certainly understand fans’ concerns.
“I feel it worse than anyone else in the stadium – I’m looking out thinking that’s not how we train or what we do,” Lam said.
“I just don’t get it and I use the word cohesion a lot, but when you’ve got players that haven’t played big minutes, they get easily fatigued and worry about their own performances and injuries rather than the unity aspect.
“We’re doing it tough at the moment and only those between the four walls in the changing rooms can get us out of it.”
Lam believed his side should have gone into half-time ahead.
“It wasn’t a good night, we’re a little bit down in confidence in the whole group and I think it is reflected in how we’re playing at the moment.
“We had some opportunities in the first-half and we could have taken control of the game.
“But when we didn’t score first the pressure builds, and we then go into halftime 6-0 down it becomes a sh*tfight.”
Lam says he will have no problem in dropping some players for their performances – though Sam Powell will not return for Monday’s away clash at Castleford.
“We need to consider some people’s position in the team, some changes need to be made.
“There’s one thing picking players but you need to pick players that are playing well and that’s hard at the moment.”

I’d like another but it looks unlikely. On the plus side from tonight, Singleton looked to carry on his upturn in form from before his ban. One play tonight summed up how the game really isn’t rocket science and that was Bateman throwing a short ball to Singleton in the second half. He absolutely steamed on to it, broke the line and went close to scoring. Why does it seem impossible for our players to show that sort of aggressive running on a regular basis?

| Just watched the game and the Sky comments again and they’ve at least gone down the line fo questioning Lam’s position. Having been in the ground tonight it came across far worse on TV actually. The general apathy in the stadium and the comments from Lam I’ve just read from his interviews with different press, I just can’t see him lasting until lunch tomorrow if Lenagan has any ounce of respect for the club and fans who’ve stuck by the club. I note that Gildart was dragged off, I think after the comment on the screen where he said ‘don’t blame me blame the pass.’ If only Lam had been as ruthless with some other players in his tenure we may not have fallen quite as far. I won’t complain if Gildart doesn’t play again for us though. Shambles of a performance and by the looks of it an attitude to match.
