| The only concern i have with this is will the captain for the match have an arm band as in fuzball if not i cannot see Mr Ganson taking to kindly to 5 approaching him when he calls the captain over. I think he would be handing out Red cards left right and . I think the arm band is possibly the answer or the 5 elect a chairperson who will be the on field mouth piece for the team.
It all seams a bit wishy washy to me but lets see how it works in practice before passing a final judgment on it.

| There will only be one onfield Captain who speaks to the ref, that is made clear in the interview.

It's the off season and nobody likes an off season moan as much as a Wigan fan.

It's not just that they have a problem grasping concepts, it's the scorn with which they treat those who don't.
Apparently, even expressing interest in this innovation is "w**king over Michael Maguire". Talk about setting their stall out to dislike the guy. It's totally pathetic.
I know certain Wigan fans like nothing more than a good moan, but I'm starting to feel that with some of them it's gone so far that perhaps should find a new club - possibly one that plays with a different shaped ball would be more in keeping.

I think you are the one who needs to do that.
I never needed to get over him. I was more critical of the way in which IL treated him, than keeping him on.
While we are on the subject, we have finished 3rd in SL for the last couple of seasons. Clearly this wasn't good enough for IL. Presumably if we don't finish 3rd then MM will get the chop too? If not, why not? And if anyone gives me this "rebuliding" nonsense then I have heard it all before........
I stil believe that the appointment of MM is a big gamble.
Then again I wouldn't be being honest if I didn't say that I have been impressed by some of his methods/decisions thus far. I sincerly hope the gamble pays off,MM proves to be the next Wayne Bennett, stays at Wigan for the next 10 years and helps us win trophies.
Time will tell.

You do talk some tripe at times I have to say.
What an arrogant and self=righteous post.
Perish the thought that those of us who have been supporting Wigan for decades are not allowed to express their opinions on the make up of our team.

I thought you said this was a forum for expression opinions?
But it's 'arrogant and self-righteous' to want to give the new coach a chance?
And you're the one who still wanted to give Noble a chance after 3.5 years of failing to deliver.
Who's talking tripe again?

And that, my friend, is the only legitimate response!
Talk about over-reacting! It seems that it needs to be all or nothing on this board of late. You're either 'all for' or 'all against' on any given issue. Whatever happened to balance? This move may be a good thing, it may not. That's the same with anything new! That's because it's new and, by definition, untried. Weird eh?

| This thread is is no longer funny but worrying. Causul moaning/questioning seems to be turning into an actual agenda to complain and find fault.
That being said, if Noble had come up with this idea, this place would have gone into meltdown.

BK, let's be honest though. You use every possible post to further your already preconcieved notions. You complained (and still do) about the risk involved in appointing Maguire and your dislike of O'Loughlin is well known. Lo and behold, this announcement proves that Maguire was indeed a risk...I mean just look at this ridiculous, radical move he has just made in giving the senior players more of an active role (something you have been calling for yourself iirc) and not only that, it proves that O'Loughlin is a gash captain despite the fact that MM has announced that O'Loughlin could have chosen to remain sole captain and that he is at the forefront of the 'group leader' idea both in terms of his support for the idea and the fact that he is among the group of the senior pros anyway! Still you can always fall back on the "well he would say that" line of argument. You usually do when the given facts don't support your case!

| I agree with Cruncher!
We needed more leaders in the team, MM has created a Process for more involvement from Senior players (And I suspect he may throw a relative youngster in from left field to give the younger players some voice in things and see that there's a way into the team or to have thei voice heard).
Swapping the on field captain? Not sure? but you know what?
It doesn't matter what I/You/Anyone else thinks as long as the players/coaches & Staff are comfortable with it & agree with it then it's fine by me!
I can't see why anyone would get so upset about it?

| I'm hoping this is a ploy by MM whereby the captaincy on the day is a token gesture and each member of the senior leaders will organise and direct certain areas of the field of play and discuss potential plays in game and weaknesses during breaks in the game.
If not I think this could be a bad idea, especially if one player gets full responsibility and loses it the week after. They might all get along but if somebody thinks they can do something better it will cause obvious friction and we could end up creating personalities that we'd rather not.

| A new concept.
Donkey's years ago Graham Lowe started watching games with a clipboard marking down how many tackles, breaks, assists etc players made.
Anyone remember the outcry?
"What's a coach doing with a clipboard, he should be coaching!"
Long time ago I know but it shows how things do change to improve.
Still think it's something to do with a quiet team and a way of making senior players take on more responsibility and leadership.
For too many seasons we've had too few leaders and too many followers.
MM does seem to be addressing the matter.
It will be interesting to find out from him if it is an idea he had for years at Melbourne or something he's innovated specifially for Wigan.
New idea, give it a go!

I couldn't agree more.
Lowe was scoffed at for having game-plans when he first arrived at Wigan. Alex Murphy at St Helens led the charge on that one. Murph is now long gone, and everyone has gameplans. Monie was raged at for rotating the prop forwards. Again, it was an innovation that now has universal useage.
For a club that once led the game at every level, and yet has been stagnant for so long - we in particular should not be shy of trying new techniques. Especially when there's a precedent for them at go-ahead clubs like Melbourne, and especially when it wouldn't be too difficult, if it goes wrong, to switch back to the old system.

They are the senior players at the club do it does make sense really. Although I'd have thought Gleeson, Fielden & Carmont could be on the list
Big op there tho for the likes of Joel, Sam & Tommy as three of the five could be on their way out at the end if the season.
