With this signing and no indication that anyone else is leaving yet, it does make you wonder how much Mathers was on and how much we really did have spare on the salary cap.

That is what I keep thinking. The Mathers thing is a bit irrelevant.

And of course we all knew that would be the case. Just about everyone on here wanted us to move for Ryles and plenty of people were unhappy at the seeming reluctance to pay a fee for Carvell. And if course if IL is prepared to spend transfer fees there is/was nothing to stop enquiries being made about anyone not just those players.

We have ourselves moved for far more risky signings such as Mathers, Pryce and Smith.

It is good news IL has finally banished the moths from his wallet but I still think he should have done so sooner and on a top class prop.

that was the extension he signed so your right you would have had to wait till 2010 but he signed the extension in 2007 ......

if he hadnt signed the extension i think his original deal was to expire in 2008 so he could have gone for free then.... but he did sign the contract and wasnt off like dust like the original poster seemed to imply

It seems like an excellent acquisition especially in exchange for a Richie Mathers. I do feel sorry for Richie as it has not worked out for him here. Lets just hope Martin can produce the kind of great form which we know he can do.

Gleeson will add a few to the gate for Thursday IMO, so he will in effect have cost a fair bit less than £100K.

Puzzles me as well. Surely we did not pay Mathers a comparable wage to Gleeson?

Perhaps there are some players to be loaned out but such deals must be in place before a team is allowed to register a new player because Gleeson's wage is added to the cap right away and if we have not got the money freed up off the cap the RFL would not register him for us.
