Rogues. I saw most of those players you mentioned (not to sure about Bradshaw and Mountford).
I remember going to Central Park on a Wednesday night (late August 1955 I think) and England were playing the 0ther Nationalities,if my memory is correct the other Nationalities threequarters lined up as follows.
Brian Bevan RW.
Billy Boston RC.
Lewis Jones LC.
Brian Nordgren LW.
That was a backline to savour.

I have just done a quick check on the facts I posted above,it was the 12th of September 1995, score Other Nationalities 33 England 16 attendance 18,000,no details of scorers though.

| Saw Billy B, McTigue, Bevan, Lewis Jones and that generation.
My father used to talk well about Martyn Ryan, and thought Johnny Ring was the fastest wingman he'd ever seen and the best, until Billy B arrived.
The ones I'd like to have seen are Ryan, Ring, Jim Sullivan, Charlie Seeling and Lance Todd.

| Saints fans wax lyrical about when Meninga had his summer over here. I missed that. Although I saw him play in the '94 series I don't think he was at his best.
Kevin Ward is another one that I didn't get to see for Saints.

Should have put 1955 there instead of 1995.

| Was lucky enough to see Boston (still the best Wigan player I've seen) and McTigue, I would loved to have watched Joe Egan and of course, Jim Sullivan.

Didn't see the younger Meninga but did seem him a few times in the early 90s. Incredible player. As big and strong as the most powerful forward, hands like a half-back and quick for a big man.
Ward was a truly great player. If he were playing today he would destroy the likes of Morley and Graham.
Anyway, enough bigging up Stains players!

| I can go back to the late 1950s so saw Boston, Ashton and McTigue for Wigan as well as Murphy for Saints.
Remember Bill Ashurst and his family from the Ince area who used to shout "there's our Bill" at Central park.
As my Dad can remember from the late 1920s he missed the sublime 'Leytham, Jenkins Todd and Miller' threequarter line. But he did see often Jim Sullivan and one of his schoolmates was Martin Ryan.
I would have loved to have seen the colossus that was Jim Sullivan, also the 'Blackball bullet', Ces Mountford, and Tommy Bradshaw.
Wigan have had so many great players since the start and throughout the game we call Rugby League, well over 100 years ago.

I somehow don't think your inclusion of Hepworth will go down too well on here.
p.s. A comment made on an RU forum about Hepworth;
The worst high tackle ever?

Now you REALLY are being stupid. No wonder even your fellow fans think you're a twonk.
True, Kevin Ward was a fantastic player, BUT, he went largely unnoticed until the 88 tour (yes he had international caps before then, but he'd nowhere near reached his peak). And to say he'd destroy Morley (who has been fantastic for well over a decade, just ask any Aussie) and Graham (fantasic now, andwho has many years of greatness ahead of him) is quite clearly STUPID BEYOND BELIEF, and shows your RL knowledge can be fitted in the eye of a very small needle.

| Wardy caused more damage to the Ozzie team than both Morley and Graham combined. I am afraid I agree with DeanoG here.
Wards link up with Andy Gregory created no end of mischief 'down under'.
Ward was certainly harder and more skilled than the two aforementioned forwards.
Insults do your argument no benefit my friend.

Eric Ashton at the side of him wouldn't go amiss either.
I hear they were reasonable.

| I suppose I'm very fortunate, with the exception of Johnny Ring, I have seen all the players you have mentioned. My father just to rave on about Johnny Ring and said he was the fastest winger he had seen.
The most outstanding players for me, were Martin Ryan, Cec Mountford, Brian McTigue, Ken Gee, Billy Boston and of course, Brian Bevan. Bevan was, without doubt, the most exciting player I had the privilege to watch. He always looked like "a bag of rags" on the field, having taken out his dentures and his knees would be heavily bandaged but what a player he was and of course his records prove it. He was well liked, not only by the Warrington fans, but my all other rugby league fans.

Sullivan
McTigue
Hanley
Kenny
Ring
Despite all the names, these are the ones I hear most often when it comes to the players who were the best to watch.
I wish I had seen the early 90's teams properly as well to be honest, thats too many players to name though.

| I saw Boston, Ashton, and McTigue at the end of their careers, but would liked to have seen them in full flow. As a Wire fan, Brian Bevan is someone I would have paid a lot of money to watch.
