Putting it into perspective, no matter how childish you think people singing in the street with a big flag is. I'm glad that we don't have fans who resort to doing things like that.

Some of the reaction from some clubs fans has been quite laughable aswell, In particular people comparing the actions of the people in that video to coach's being bricked.

Trust Hull fans to save the day and put things into perspective.

If the Hull story is true then it certainly puts it into perspective. However, the lesson learned should be to not post such videos on youtube for risk of them being misinterpreted and taken out of context. Also to leave flags and chants in the ground.

Well, that settles it then. The Brigantes are complete nutters - who in their right mind would want to own St Helens?







On a more serious note, I haven't seen the video, but if as reported they were deliberately blocking the road then that is not good.

I think the Brigantes have brought a lot of colour and noise and I don't have a problem with them, it all adds to the atmosphere, but their exuberance may have gone too far here.

As I say, despite being part of the group I don't condone everything, I'm just intrigued what a 'real' Wigan fan is

i would class a real fan as one who attends matches home and away and only has the clubs best intrests at heart. A person who would not do moronic acts to portray the club in a bad light. The flags, new songs/chants and vocal support at the DW and away stadiums is great by the Brigantees, but marching through towns making a complete of themselves is something that needs to be cut out.

I've seen the video and apart from the banner, scarf etc... it's no different than any other previous Wigan v Saints matches in St Helens when plenty Wiganer's (including myself and others who post on here and on this thread) have been singing through the town centre on match days walking from one pub to another in groups. Harmless banter and nothing else as it happens when Saints fans come to Wigan as well, I don't see the fuss personally.

People are just stuck in their ways. I bet the majority of people who object to them moan because some of them are young and haven't been watching Wigan as long as them. Move with the times. Its their way of supporting the club and making home atmospheres better. Shaun Wane has already pointed out he'd like the crowds to be louder at home and I bet the people moaning are the ones who don't make one bit of noise

So blocking the road and causing a nuisence is ok then?

Of course it is a silly thing to do but we have all done silly things when drinking and it hasn't really caused any real problems. There is probably plenty of rugby fans not involved in groups like the brigantes who cause much more trouble on away days when they are tanked up. On the whole, these guys haven't done anything particularly bad or to cause any offence and I think they are just an easy target by some fans, especially on here

No there is not, we don't have this problem in RL.

There are too many variables to say 'He/She is a real fan' For example, I know of a couple who live in Barrow and never, ever miss a home game. But don't get to many away games. I'd say they were a bigger fan than someone who lives in Pemberton and goes to every home game and the odd away game. There's guys like Coventry Warrior who travel quite a distance also to get to home games, I would class guys like him as a bigger fan than someone who goes home and away.

You cannot say someone who goes Home and Away is a 'real fan' as you make it seem like some fans don't like to go to away games. Some people can't afford it, some work odd days/hours. Some live just too far away to make going to home and away games viable for them.

So, if it's okay with you, I won't give a 'Yes or No' answer on what a Real Fan is. But what I will say is, walking through St Helens town centre, blocking traffic and looking for trouble is someone who is not a Real Fan.

How can you just say that someone who happens to live in Barrow and goes to every home match is a bigger fan than someone who happens to live in Pemberton? Whilst I applaud their dedication and effort to get to games I think it's unfair on people who just happen to live locally to say oh, their a bigger fan than you because they live further away. And I'd like to think that the people themselves who live far away would agree. This isn't a d1ck measuring contest and it's stupid to start the whole "their a bigger fan than you" debate. If someone travels 100 miles every week to get to a home game every weekend then good on them, but you can't start saying one person is a bigger fan than anyone else just because of the distance they have to travel to get to games.

And I think it's harsh to say the people in that video aren't real fans either. I agree with you that their actions are a bit over the top, but just because their way of supporting the club is different to your's or my way, doesn't mean they are any less "a fan".

If they didn't go to games, weren't wearing colours and just walked around the streets looking for an excuse to fight and hurl abuse at people then you might have a point.

Saints - Wigan is a big game and the behaviour in that video, to me writing as a Leeds fan, seemed pretty much ok in that context. Having said that, you'd soon get the club a bad name were it to become a regular feature at every game.

A real fan doesnt have to go to every game or travel 100 miles to a game, a real fan is someone who simply loves Wigan Rugby League. They dont have to sing or wave flags they just need to be passionate about the club. I dont care if someone goes to every game or has never been if they Love the club they are a real fan to me.

I live in Edinburgh , have a season ticket and travel to every home game and about 70% of away games as does my son . I am in a fortunate position that i can afford to do this . It does not in my opinion make us in any way bigger or better fans than anyone who goes to only home games or as many games as they can afford. It is what we all feel for Wigan Rugby League club that counts .

My view is that none of us can say who is and who is not a "True Fan". We are however able to comment on what can be seen as socially acceptable behaviour. The two things are not connected, they are totally different issues.
