Leeds had ran with their squad all season and then with a few months to go before the season finishes.....in comes Smith.
Now either, he came for free or Leeds had a chunk of cash to offer Smith (which they didn't spend earlier in the season).

At least we had player movements / contract negotiations in between.

Why are you even arguing? Just because you don't like the fact that we can afford him under the cap doesn't somehow make it questionable. Publish the insider knowledge that you must have to be making the assertions you are or do one. You have no more idea of the wage structure at Wigan than my milkman's cat. In fact, I'm willing to bet you don't know the wages being paid to a single player at this (or any other) club.

It seems to me you are intent on trying to prove Wigan are somehow bending the rules, cheating or otherwise doing something illegal but it's quite clear Wigan aren't doing anything wrong this time except for being Wigan it seems.

Phelps and Riddell were both signed by our current chairman Ian Lenagan and Phil Bailey had his contract renegotiated and extended by one season I think under Lenagan's ownership and the rumour was that his over-inflated wage was reduced to give a more accurate reflection on what he offered to the team in salary terms.

I'm quite sure Iafeta Palea'aesina was still on the contract which he was signed on when he left Wigan. The contract which was negotiated by Maurice Lindsay/Dave Whelan. Similarly it was rumoured that he too was on an over-inflated wage.

In contrast, it was reported that Brett Finch, as an example, was offered more money by Hull KR to sign for them (as they had more money available on their cap) but despite that signed for Wigan because of what he felt he could achieve here.

The cap is live anyway. We're not cheating.

Who knows how much Leeds pay their players last season....Peacock, Maguire, Sinfield, Buderus??? I don't. Regardless of your players salaries I bet you spend up to the cap. Like we probably do year on year.

However you made your change at the end of the season unexpectedly (you didnt realise that Smith would want to come back so soon from RU), and you grabbed him straight away.

Without releasing anyone / putting anyone out on loan / re-negotiating salary with anyone....(spirit of the cap

It baffles me.

"Innovative" coaches come from Australia to this side of the world and want to take standards up but once again the majority of Rugby League in this country is crying it's unfair.

It's the same psyche as "Wigan are winning everything, it's unfair". I am convinced that although it wasn't the only reason the salary cap was introduced it was partly the reason it was introduced.

If the boot was on the other foot I'm sure they wouldn't have been whinging about it. No doubt an opposition fan will give me some kind of "moral highground" lecture on clubs getting into financial difficulty (sighting Wigan and the sale of Central Park as an example) being the sole reason for the cap being brought in.

I await with bated breath.
