TBH when I heard Salford were looking for outside backs to loan, he was the first name I thought of in SL. It might do him the world of good, or merely expose the fact, he isn't as good as many believe him to be.

FWIW, maybe getting away from Noble might help him, they don't seem to click as a pairing, but when you see others such as Ainscough, Joel and O'Carroll and to some extent Sam & McIllorum who have under Noble, then surely it is only resonable to ask questions of Goulding as well.

Fair point but I honestly do not think Goulding has done much wrong for a young player when he has played to get the treatment he has had from Noble selection-wise.

You said yourself about Pryce thread the fans are quick to judge and I think this is the case with Goulding as well. Players develop at different rates and many were writing O'Carroll off last season for example.

As to Ainscough and Sam T it's early days yet and either of them could suffer the "2nd season syndrome" but at the moment Noble can't drop them but I feel Noble has blamed Goulding for others failings so I think he may thrive under a different coach. Any coach!

I hope we keep him long-term. He is still only very young, and there's still a lot of improvement in him, I think people often forget this.

The only reason they wont let Goulding leave is because he will be another player to join the long list of successful players who were brought through the ranks at Wigan.

They have been offered by 3 clubs transfer fee for him but you will never hear that!

Well it might and he did mention Phelps but I can't believe we would let Goulding go and retain Phelps.

If you look at Gouldings stats in 2008 they are not a lot far behind Gleesons (on average per number of games) which for a then 20 year old compared to an experienced international is pretty good. So far this season although not representative because of so few games played (only 2 by Goulding) his stats are [ibetter [/ithen Gleesons!

Goudling can only play centre, Phelps can play various positions, if he is low salary, that is why Phelps would be retained.

Goulding could play wing.

As I understand it, it's Noble who doesn't want Goulding to be sold.

If the Salford loan comes off then it's good for him and in the long term good for us because it's a great opportunity for him to get some consistent game time under his belt and regain some confidence. For anyone who knew of Goulding as a junior will know he has all the makings of a class player and one we shouldn't be writing off with a cheap sale.

At least passing isnt a skill required for that position.

Agreed with this point. At 21 he has at least another two or three seasons before he should be declared unfit for service.

I have read this messageboard for years and seemingly every other post from you has been slagging off Goulding. This is no matter how well he has played and is even when a thread has nothing to do with him, such as when another player is being criticised. He has only just turned 21 now for gods sake and despite this you still give him grief and never praise him. You have been doing this for ages and were criticising him in previous seasons when he was even younger than Ainscough and Tomkins are now.

It is strange though how you dont do it with any other young player or indeed any other Wigan player. Did he bully you at school or something or is it jealousy because he signed for Wigan and not you because it is obvious that it is something. Whatever it is it is a pity that you cant judge him fairly as a player because of whatever has happened in the past.

Since when did we start playing 100 games a season?
