Quote ="Biff Tannen"Scoring 30 odd tries a season does not automatically make you a class winger. Ryan Hall has been way down the try scoring charts for the last few years now but its simply down to the way we play. It's not all about getting the ball to Ryan Hall at Leeds which with his talents it would be in most other sides. When he first broke on to the scene, with Senior inside of him (a wingers dream), he scored at a rate of more than a try a game but nobody in their right mind would argue Hall isn't a much better player now and been one of the best in the World for a while. Put him in a big game situation he produces time and again where others would fail.Yes, Wingers are there for scoring tries but they need to bring more to the table, and in this day and age the less glamorous things like how a player kick returns and holds up under the high/cross field kick is more important, and Briscoe and Hall are generally superb at this.'"
Good post Bill.
Difficult to argue with the majority of your points however, ultimately a winger will always be judged on how many tries that they score particularly in this country.
Hall is an excellent winger who would excel in any era. The reason that he scores less tries these days is that he plays without a centre. Moon maybe strong but he ain't a centre in the purest sense.
