| My unimportant two penneth on this is why are people so bothered about criticising this group of people? Smacks of petty attitudes, I won't say jealousy, there really isn't anything to be jealous of. If someone wants to go to the game and graffiti somewhere (and this Brigante group haven't told them to) then you can only blame the individual who actually went through with it. It's like terrorism, you can plan for the group of nutjobs but the one loose-cannon with an agenda is the most dangerous! Real mountain and mole hill scenario this, people need to get a grip and go to the game to enjoy what's on the field.

| Quote ="XBrettKennyX"Pretty much agree with this.
I used to laugh at the "Brigantes" in the sense that they thought they were somehow "better" fans then the majority. It really did amuse me. The only thing "Ultra" about them was that drum which is ultra annoying - If that drum was near me at a game it would be a broken drum by the end, but that's more to do with manners rather than anything else.
However, overall they were/are harmless enough and are free to do enjoy themselves I guess. If the "Brigante" thing becomes an umbrella under which idiots can flourish, then it needs to be addressed.
There is no room for this in RL and especially at Wigan RL.'"
So you would go and break someones drum? How lovely of you. Is that not worse than singing, waving flags and jumping around? I would say it is. Manners? You are the one wanting to break someone elses drum.
There is no room for one idiot to ruin it for everyone else is what you mean. There is room for a group trying to improve the atmosphere, it has already been proven.
Then again you could find some negativity in world peace.

Not in my eyes. But I suppose the stickers are easier to remove.

| Orrell Lad, of course you're right to ask that question.
Whilst both can be seen as a type of vandalism, many companies do use sticker campaigns to advertise themselves, stickers are very simple to clean, sliding off with relative ease using alcohol based solvents, and these can be removed from all surfaces. Spray Paint, on the other hand is undeniably not common place advertising, and does not clean of surfaces without a considerable amount of chemical and physical intervention. There are some surfaces (i.e. Concrete) which spray paint will not come off full stop.

I would break that drum with no qualms whatsoever. I attend a rugby ground to watch RL, not for my ears to be subjected to mindless chinese torture. If I wanted to hear drums I would go to a rock concert.

Fair enough, but the Brigantes aren't a company that require any form of advertising. They are a group of fans. It just seems like a 'we woz ere' statement, which doesn't sit comfortably with me as a Wigan fan.

So you are moaning at us about being well.... a list of things that we are not, added to that many things you are clearly uneducated about. Why comment on things you have no idea about?? And yet you are happy to break someone elses possesions. I dare you to try you would be chucked out of the stadium before any Brigante for doing that I suspect.
I don't like you shouting so much during the game, I will just punch you? Is that ok? No, I don't think it is.

So just because a sticker is easy to remove it doesnt make it right to stick it everywhere.

You may wish to use a well known video sharing site and search for "Tim Minchin - Context". When you take a word out context it is as meaningless as a word without a sentence.
Afterall, is an extremist not someone who has deep passion about something and supports that passion undyingly? You couldn't deny that a religious extremist takes the actions he/she does because of their unequivical passion of their religion, regardless of whether they are right or wrong.
The reputation of the term "Ultra" is precursive, and it's important to note that Football Ultra or European Ultra does not equal the same as Rugby Ultra or Wigan Ultra. Just the same as Extreme Muslim does not equal the same as Extreme Sport.'"
I don't need to watch any video, the context is a fans group and the word 'ultra'. You can try and separate the two by using contextual analysis all you like, if you choose a label that has been tainted by several troublesome football groups you have to expect the stink that come with it.
Any label could have been used instead, literally.

| Okay, there's a lot of focus on negatives here. So, let's just take a step back here and look at things...
The negative here is that someone has taken it upon themselves to spray-paint the stadium "in the name of The Brigantes". The positive is that the Brigantes (who's brand was used) have addressed the issue, and have taken professional steps to deal with the situation approriately.
The negative is that some folk believe the Ultras term is typical of hooligans and violence. The positive is that the Brigantes (who brand themselves as having an "ultra's scene"icon_wink.gif, have acknowledged that they are aware of the pre-conception of the term Ultras and are taking steps to change that pre-conception.
The negative is that some folk disagree with what the Brigantes are trying to achieve. But the positive there has been a definate increase in noise levels within both home and away stadia during the 2011 season.
The positives are that, at away games, it is a majority who are involved with the singing and joining in. It is accepted by the Brigantes that it is more difficult to replicate the same at home games. It's difficult to replicate because there aren't 2000 fans at home games, there's 18'000, so that's 11'000 people who do, or dont, want to get involved. By the very nature of it, it's a lot more difficult to get 11'000 people on side than it is 2000. I think it's very important to identify that the Brigantes are managing just that, the numbers are on the up.
Think about the views of other teams on Wigan as a whole... The Wigan Walk, they never sing, they only sing when they're winning. Now look at the views of other teams on the Brigantes, Loud support, Vocal support, colourful displays, stay behind after games, sing for 80 minutes.
In everything in life there are negatives to the positives, you can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs. What the Brigantes are focusing on is pushing the positives to the wider population, and addressing the negatives in house.
Nobody can force anyone else to get behind the Brigantes, all that can be done is to show that through the dedication to the team, the group is accessible and inviting.

Both noise pollution!
Do you think it is acceptable to break someone elses possesion? I hope not. You are worse than the people you have been attempting to describe if that is the case.
You will try to find a fault in anything fella. Why do you waste your time on an internet forum just to be picky about stuff?
One idiot has spoiled a group was has so far done everything they can to improve the atmosphere, it is as simple as that. We certainly havn't done anything as bad as breaking something which is not ours (something you clearly stated you would be willing to do). Your judgement has been shocking.
Come back with whatever clever answer you can find, maybe sit there for a while and come up with something really juicey to try and get under my skin, whatever you like.
=#FF0000At the end of the day I know a really sound bunch of lads, infact, no, mates.... I go to the games with them, we are friends outside of the rugby, we get on really well. We have done our best to improve the atmosphere at games without 'trying' to be some clique. We have done our best to try and police it, it is a shame one latics fan has ruined it for us. This 'we' I talk of, I'm talking about the 'Brigantes'. Mates, friends, rugby, atmosphere. That is where it ends.
