It was a great ploy by Wigan. Offer Wheeler a good contract, Saints had to up the ante and were forced to pay over the odds for a lad who although is talented has spent half of his career thus far on the treatment table.

Can you imagine the uproar on the Saints site if Wheeler had gone to Wigan and they lost Eastmond to Rugby Union?

Winning the CC is great for drumming up interest in your own town, but I don't think it has the national kudos that it used to have because everyone now knows it's nothing like the test that winning the Grand Final is.

Warrington are clearly going the right way. Smith seems to have straightened out a lot of the Wire idiots, and if they pull off all these signings, they'll be a force to be reckoned with - but they're still something like 10th in the league. Not well placed in that respect.
