If a Lions team wins a series they do tend to get the vote. On a sporting scale though, their efforts are definitely not that special. Team Sky and Wigan have better pedigree from that persepective.

You can't just create a made up team in order to win an award. For most fans, the two clubs can't stand each other. To then join together in order to win an award would be very desperate.

Rogues is being genuine. This isn't the first time he has suggested this.

Aye, but didn't they also swamp the voting which led the BBC to change it from that point on so it couldn't happen again?
In answer to the original question: not a cat in hell's chance (but I'll lay odds the Yawnion Lions mob get more than a passing mention).

Quote The man in charge of Sports Personality of the Year 2013 has responded to a letter calling for Wigan Borough’s unprecedented sporting success to feature in the popular programme.
Executive editor Carl Doran said “we’ll certainly do our best to represent an incredible year for Wigan in Sport”. Mr Doran made the comments in an email to Councillor David Molyneux, the deputy leader of Wigan Council. '"

You could put a joint bid in with St Helens town for it! You won 5th place in superleague, got some new cladding and St Helens town came 19th in the Tommy Browns butchers 15th division whilst breaking their transfer record of 21p.

| What chance did we have in picking up anything, zero, nowt, not alot, Zilch.
Chris Froome won the tour de france and got absolutely nowt, yet the year before Wiggins got the top gong.
Halfpenny getting 2nd must have meant half of wales had voted.

Never expected us to get owt from last night, I think the days of rugby league being recognised at SPOTY are well and truly over. I thought we did well to get the 60 second airtime we got, as normally we don't get that. It made me laugh though when we had that bit regarding the town and our achievements this year which was followed by claire balding saying "that moved us nicely on to the team of the year" and we Wernt even in the 3. Pmsl.

Seeing as the Lions won team of the year and Warren Gatland won coach of the year it's hardly surprising that the man of the series was up there. The Lions is huge in this country, probably the biggest event in RU hence why such a big deal was made of winning the series.
Also, Bradley Wiggins didn't just win the Tour De France, he was the 1st Brit to do so ever. Add to that his Olympic gold medal and it's easy to see why his achievements were ranked higher than Froome's (whose win is still a huge achievement).

But also Froome is African. I know others are such as Mo and KP. But when they did his individual slot to promote him it was done with more of his heritage about being African. I cant see too many people voting for him after that.
